This is what you can do - Both in Mumbai and in Delhi, you have USCIS approved doctors who help people going through CP. In other words those who choose to go through emp based CP or family based Green Card which US embassy issues, go through Indian hospitals in Mumbai and Delhi. So those guys who attended the hearings or met with senators. what was the result? what did they accomplished? did they get the opportunity to participate with the senator or law maker in an action plan? or we just wasted that opportunity asking for autographs? please those guys post your comments.

Hi Guys,
After a long journey of more than Sixteen years in this country, I finally received my GC.
In short, I came in 1993 on J-1 for my training which took six years, followed by one year on O-1 visa and then J-1 waiver for three and half years in underserved area. Then applied for labor certification in Oct, 2003 EB2, through university, which was approved and then retrogressed. Applied Schedule IIA, approved but also got retrogressed. Got AILA liaison and Senetor involved.
Applied for EB1 and NIW in July 2008.
My lawyer was very much involved in the whole process, was very helpful at every step, and wrote letters to USCIS.
Finally, GC came in April, 2009 and received the cards one week later. My PD Oct 2003.
During these time, I actually had no problmes at my job or my my wife's job. Brought a house four years ago.
The main problems were:
Daughter and son could not apply to state colleges/ medical colleges. (daughter going to med school next month)
Got stuck in India for renew of H-1 for 2 months!!! (worst time of my life, with my wife and kids in US) I tied every thing from writing letters to calling Ambasador. Not effective.
Could not go to certain occasions, like death of very close family members, weddings etc.
However, I kept my cool and prayed and got lot of support from Immigration voice.
As a small token of appreciation, I am donating $500 .(and will keep on supporting)
We all are going to get GC, some sooner some later. Just keep on doing you job.

Do this: Be happy with what you already have and expect (don�t worry) more good things in life. Just compare with somebody who doesn't even have food, clothes, shelter, health care, etc... in their lives.
You are VERY fortunate to make it to US and living a decent life than most of the Indians.

Yup, i went back to my homecountry in February after 10 years away from home and trust me, our lives here are good. People back there will trade your place in a heartbeat. Just be glad that you are in the pipeline for a PR.

but even with this big announcement tomorrow, we still only have 140,000 visas and keep in mind USCIS has just been averaging about 100,000 per year. (so about 40,000 get wasted every year)
All all this does is to push the bottleneck further down the pipeline.

Ask your law firm why they are charging you so much. Below are the rates charged by my lawyer and should not be too different from what most of the others charge. If the lawyer doesn't answer, then show these numbers to your employer and lodge a strong protest with them.

If you are working on an hourly basis, does your employer pay you when you're on the bench? If he doesn't, keep record of that and once you get your GC sue him over back wages and complain to DOL. These people don't deserve any thing better.

Yes... benchmarking is good (in many things as you suggest quality, corruption, infrastructure etc.)... but absolutely not in everything as you suggest, some things just aren't comparable given some micro-economic conditions. Further, doing so would also encourage the mindset of aping the developed countries in every department. Remember the India that we see has gone through hundreds of social and economic cycles over thousands of years. It is not a nation that came to being a few hundred years ago and was a developed country (in current terms) many times in the past.
If one learns history then one also learns not to just take a slice of it for generalization! A holistic view of what happened in the past globally and our current state makes one realize the hidden riches and clear shortcomings in any nation. One need not level out it's hidden riches to clear the shortcomings !
Yes I agree, our history and way of working is also different maybe better/worse, but defenitely way more experience! I don't think I would want to change any thing about family , friend relations and the way we help each other. Even some of the ways we think, has a lot of advantages.

US economy is down and receission is meant to happen every 5 years in US some times to recover and job creation it takes longer if you read the US history and economics you will understand better. This time the open global media made it a big issue, that is about it. When the economy improves and things are better, again your so called glamour comes back. .
This time is different, I do work in the financial industry.
I would hate to say this - but was every recovery in the last 2 decades mostly due to a bubble that was created - dot-com, low interest, housing?
There are not many bubbles left to create, and the debt was never this high.
The growth of India should be more compared to Canada, that has a conservative financial system with lot of regulation. AKA no vegas.

(receipt date for 140 is October 2007)
(thanks to labor backlog center :mad: got stuck in backlog center for 5 years)
With my friend's company - EB3 - April 2004 - 140 is under processing....
(receipt date for 140 is July 2007) 485, EAD, AP filed and got them also.
What all the options I have now? Which one will be better assuming both 140 gets approved.
