I really don't see any MB or MBP updates. Again, I could be off, but I don't see those until later this year.
I'm sure the C2D chips coming out on all sorts of Windows laptops may be putting some pressure on Apple to update their laptop line, but I think it's still too soon.
It's not too soon at all, at least for the MB pro. I doubt we'll see an announcement at THIS event, but I expect we'll see at least a MBP update in the next couple weeks. I'd guess no event, just a press release. Minis and iMacs should also get updated in the next few weeks, probably also a press release for each.

I don't recall massive outcry from the devs on those other platforms. Why do you think that is?
For Nintendo back in the 80's, there was massive outcry. Not only did they gatekeep but they had a high licensing fee and capped the number of releases per year per developer. So yeah, devs were pissed. Atari even lied to the patent office just so they could reverse engineer the lockout chip (and got sued for it).
So if you don't recall, you probably weren't paying attention

That sounds like it makes sense, but does ATT have LTE coverage? or will they by October?
AT&T is working on 4G... like them all. None of them have wide spread 4g yet. But it's coming. In my area it will be probably 2 years, but it's coming. This is why I don't think 4G is such a big deal right now. Besides... I use the 3G only when on the road and most of the time the speed is fine for email and casual browsing. 4G would be really nice... but it's not the "big thing" for me. And I don't think it's the "big thing" for most people as much as they would like to think so. I know I'm on WiFi most of the time anyway.

Directed a friend to the Great Barrington store in western MA this morning. Store had a total of 6 units. He was the only one there at 9am opening and picked up a black 16gb wifi. Salesperson tried selling extras (including an 1st gen ipad cover, lol) but none were required.

I'm not very impressed. Rather disappointing news, isn't it ?
1) Voice control: I barely use it on my 3GS... and never see anyone using it. It's already been implemented for ages in every cellphones (remembering old Siemens GSM of 1999 already had it...) and nobody has been using it. Even more gimmicky than 3D imho... When in public transportation, you are trying to be as discreet as possible, not to shout into your phone/earphones mic. maybe for in-car purposes would voice control be a nice addition but most modern cars already offer similar, maybe superior capabilities (thinking about the Renault Carminat universal bluetooth connectivity kit which is great).
2) LTE: does it exist anywhere outside the US ? seems a tad early to me - and seeing how shy Apple was with 3G, I think we'd better wait a year or two.
What I'd rather like in my future iPhone is:
1) a built-in pico projector (making it the ultimate corporate phone in certain situations... plus a fantastic portable multimedia platform)
2)localized social awareness: discover what music people around you are listening to/what sites they're surfing on, etc (opt-in), would be a nice leap in the social network area (where Apple is a bit stagnating)
LTE will not revolutionize how people use their phones, nor will voice control - I don't see myself talking to my phone, it cannot be quicker than typing & swiping... whereas pico-projection, localized social awareness (orh whatever they may call it)... yummy...
anyway, that was just my 2 cents...

in order to continue their growth, they're have to get into even more niche markets, while expanding their mainstream markets.
SZ--please explain. It seems that even a small increase in the mainstream would overshadow a large gain in niche markets. If Apple increases mainstream market share why do they need the niche markets?

I hope Apple adds translation and Wolfram Alpha to the Siri thing. I'd love to get an answer without typing when I say "Translate in French: Where are you studying now?" or "Solve 1.52 times 8.38?"

possibilities:
1. Airport Express 2.0 with support for video streaming or (Airtunes 2.0)
2. Wireless AppleTV
3. WiMax or 3G integrated with new MacBooks
4. Slingbox to iPhone (as already rumored)
5. Some sort of iTunes integration with in-flight entertainment
6. Super-light MacBooks
Last year was iPhoneWorld so I don't think Jobs will concentrate much on the iPhone this year. I also don't think it is Slingbox because that would mean a product developed by someone other than Apple would take center stage...and that will never happen. A light computer is not really "in the air." Apple is too clever for that to be what they mean. And I don't think this will turn into AppleTVWorld either (although I do expect AppleTV-related announcements).
No...I think the focus will be on the Macintosh at this year's MacWorld. Therefore I vote for #3. Imagine every new MacBook equipped with an AirPort card that can access AT&T's 3G network. No more searching for WiFi spots. You could access the Internet at fast speeds while cruising down the highway! Pretty cool. It would definitely catch the competition off guard.

For the OP, in the war mongering department how would you compare Bush (W) to Obama? And were you in this forum badmouthing Bush during the Iraq war (not Desert Storm)? JC.
I don't mind giving a dictator a nudge out the door but after bankrupting ourselves in 2 wars that have done nothing for U.S. security, if the U.N. wants to take action against Libya, they can round up other volunteers to do the job which appears like this is what has happened.
Here is my take on recent history:
Iraq: The Iraq War (not Desert Storm) was one big war crime packaged and sold as a threat to the U.S. when it never was. I hold Bush and Cheney responsible. They should be in jail. We spent a couple of trillion and killed and wounded 10s of thousands of U.S. soldiers, and probably killed 100k Iraqi citizens removing a dictator in a country that posed no direct threat to the U.S. Now we have a country that is nominally friendly towards us with plenty of anti-U.S. groups within it's border. Did we get a couple of trillion dollars worth of value as compared to spending a trillion domestically? HELL NO.
Afganistan: Started as a worthy effort to kill BinLaden to avenge the Twin Tower attacks, but again thanks to El Stupido, we left there before getting the job done, and btw as soon as we left, the situation started reverting to back what it was before we showed up. I've got news for you, as soon as we leave there again, it will once again revert to what it was before. I am not happy that Obama who campaigned on getting us out of bad wars, but two years later we are still in one. This is what the terrorists want. They spend a million, we spend a trillion. Occupying a country to fight terrorists is no win for the occupier. They can wait a life time.We can't afford it. And look at Russia's experience in Afghanistan. History is repeating itself and we are just too stupid to see it. Even if we decided to annex Afghanistan and treat it like a U.S. State, the cultural divide would be great and it would be a huge financial drain for the foreseeable future. When is the U.S. going to really understand that nation building is incredibly expensive and the payoff must be incredibly worthy? And there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be successful. I especially don't see that in this case.
When the U.S. was overflowing with money we could afford it. Now we can't. We have to get our financial house in order* before we can go traipsing around the world "solving" other people's problems for them. Today, the only excuse I see for us launching into military action is if our national sovereignty is threatened. None of these wars meet that standard.
*And when I say get our financial house in order, I don't mean take it all away from the people and give it to the corporations. :p
Now, if you want to consider something very funny, ask the Republican Congress to spend a couple trillion domestically to strengthen the infrastructure of this country and help our citizens. They would scream like stuck pigs. Dangle a war in front of them, no problem. Democrats did not start this war. However I want leadership who can realistically compare the risks against the rewards. Therefore they have failed too. What other political choices are there? We just can't keep spending a billion dollars a day on this kind of a war for the foreseeable future and expect to prevail as a country.

Kiddies on this board will be frothing at the mouth with Ann Coulter-esque murderous rage.
Why did they have to use a third party WiFi card if it's the OS's problem. My understanding is that it's Intel's deal, not Apple's.
We're apparently too smug to figure that out?

I don't get the "3D" screen thing???? My regular 1080p TV can play a 3d Movie just fine. The 3D software shared here on MacRumors didn't have any special screen... what the heck would Apple do to make it a 3D screen?
I say "false".
Have you not heard of Nintendo's 3DS...??
Here's why it's really false. The parallax barrier would have to either be vertical or horizontal. Unless there's tech that works both ways, and even if there was, switching orientations would make everything all blurry.
Oh, and putting your fingers on the 3d would mess with it. Smudges show up far worse on a 3D screen, and iPad doesn't have buttons like the 3DS, so it would either be tilt or 3D, not both (kinda like the 3DS is AR or 3D, not both, but there's enough control schemes there that don't mess with the 3D.

Holy moley, you mean it starts downloading cover art without asking or letting you turn that off? I don't want cover art, and I sure as heck don't want to use up bandwidth on my connection for cover art downloads, much less send out reports on what I care to keep in my playlists.

So this fall, we can expect from Apple...
A Retina Display iPad 3
An A5 powered iPod
and an...
A5 powered iPhone 5 with a 4" screen, 4g, better voice controls, cloud storage and drag and drop support.
Basically, every single thing on this list is about to come true...
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1021233
I could live with that. Apple is going to DOMINATE this Christmas. :)
Except for the fact that Apple is not about to release an iPad 3 this year. They have absolutely no reason to.
June: Preview Lion and iOS 5.
July/August: Release Lion.
June-Sept: Updated iMacs.
Sept: Updated iPods.
Sept/Oct(even Jan): iPhone 5.
Spring 2012: iPad 3.
You really expect them to squeeze a new iPad into the fall. If anything you will see another Air update.

Drinking from the Apple koolaid again, huh?
Perhaps if you pulled your head out of SJ's bum long enough to look around, you'd notice the vast majority of iPhone users are being punished in Apple's attempt to mold the internet in it's own image.
A large number of websites use flash in their design, and are completely inaccessible without flash support. Inefficient or not, that's fact, and we're the losers here.
Sorry, just stating facts. Flash is a horribly inferior technology and has crippled the web from a much greater potential. I honestly have not missed it at all on my iPhone and I block it with ClickToFlash on my Macs. I would GLADLY forgo Flash if Apple can kill it forever. Web developers need to use approved open standards and stop using Flash as a crutch. And if by Apple's own image, you mean far superior open standards that are approved by the W3C, then yes!

over in england its most likely going to be tescos moaning about iTunes Movies..
I doubt it.
The percentage of DVD buying public in the UK who meet the requirements of:
* High speed broadband
* Modern computer capable of hosting the downloaded films / TV programmes
* Desire to buy yet another piece of electrical equipment to squeeze under the TV
* Desire not to have a physical DVD on their shelf which they can take to friends
* Have access to the full range of titles available in the supermarket, in the highstreet or online at the likes of Amazon from the UK iTMS
is not likely to be high enough to worry the likes of Tesco.

They had only one which they were trying to see if the customer was going to pick up (bought at another store), but while the clerk was calling to check on it's status they did say that i'd have to by an accessory and apple care if it became available.
These guys are dirty. I didn't feel all that good about going there to get one anyhow, I've never been a fan of their over priced stuff. This was the icing on the cake.
This blatant greed really turns me off, I wont be back ... for one of these or anything else.
