Milo helped me find 2 iPads at a Best Buy in my local area. Unfortunately, the site has shown 'sold out' everywhere for the last few days.
That's because Best Buy stopped showing iPad 2 availability online a few weeks ago (and Milo requires this), because they are currently trying to fill their backlog of orders and reservations with every iPad they get. They stopped taking orders at the same time. Once they fulfill all their orders and start having stock, I'm sure they will switch the future back on, that let's you check local inventory.
On a side note, I went to an Apple store in Indianapolis, at 9:30am at the end of last week and there were about 150+ people in line. I didn't realize they were still opening the store an hour early every day to sell the iPads they had received in the previous day. I wonder how long this will go on for.

Not surprising really. Anyone I know who was 'curious' about switching changes their mind once they have bought into the eco system with an iDevice and get used to the combination of UI, solid build and design.
I kind of went the other way 5 months ago, being a Mac user for the last 15 years as a student and then professionally in the graphic design field I decided to give one of these PCs a try..
As I couldn't make up my mind whether to replace my iBook G3 with a Macbook/Macbook Pro/iPad, I decided to go for a cheap and cheerful HP G62 dual core laptop as a 'stop gap' solution for 350 just to see if PCs are as bad as some people make them out to be.
I have to say my experience in the last 5 months has been ok-ish, yes it is mildly annoying that the constant update requests, long bootups, occasional crash happy nature (and fragile) of Windows 7 has made me think about chucking the laptop out of the window (no pun intended). The fan can get bloody loud and gets quite hot and battery life is poor. But I accept that you get what you pay for and I guess that encapsulates the experience of the average Windows user who is willing to pay a substandard price for a substandard user experience.
As a result, my experience will not make me want to buy any PC products again. I've bought it just for browsing the web and syncing the iPod Touch to iTunes (which is doesn't seem to work aswell in Win7), somehow I can't run iTunes 10.2 which is another bloody annoying issue..
I cannot wait to get the new SandyBridge iMac later this year and maybe iPad 3 next year so until then will put up with my substandard PC product to gather dust / or smash it with a hammer / simply get rid of on eBay.
It will be Macs only for me going forward ;)
I'm definately not a PC :D And Windows 7 sucks compared to OSX. Actually bag of sh_te is a better description!
Sounds like you bought a bloatware infested loss leader.
HP is famous for that.
You also grossly overpaid.
Buy a proper laptop (ThinkPad) and your experience will be significantly better.

So, it looks like Apple is trying to fix the problem by keeping the MacBook cooler, thus preventing the heat sink from expanding enough to come into contact with the cable. A simple, elegant solution, except it will likely cause increased fan use and decreased battery life, but these are minor inconveniences compared to random shutdown.
I don't think this is what is happening, because Apple has increased fan frequency before, and it didn't prevent the issue. The KB page claims that this update "resolves the issue," which is pretty definitive wording, so I suspect the firmware's sensor monitoring behavior has changed in some way that ignores the short-circuit. I'd love to have more information from those technically-minded enough to find out.

The only flaw with that is the rest of the market is shrinking.
So if the market is down as a whole, and one manufacture is up, that one manufacturer is definitely doing something right.
On top of that is the fact that the world population is growing.
These other guys are fumbling the ball.

i bought a macbook 2ghz core duo, 1gb, 80gb, superdrive at the apple store this past sunday. it looks like now i could of gotten the core 2 duo with all the other same specs for about $200 cheaper. does anyone know if apple has some sort of exchange policy for situations like this?
To quote myself from another thread
Buying from an Applestore means that you have a 14 days price match policy. So if anyone bought theirs within the past 2 weeks, could get a price match.
At least that's what's on the receipt from the Applestore in Michigan Av. in Chicago, IL when I bought mine 4 weeks ago...

I hope this is true!!!
How is Sony's track record with sensors though?
Let's go Fall! (Not even WWDC ;))
They make all of Nikons sensors, even the high end D3S and D3X dSLRs ones. They also made (or make?) Canon point and shoot sensors; at least as of a few years ago. Sony was one of the first with backlit CMOS as well.
Oh, and I think Pentax, if you want to consider them a camera compay, uses Sony sensors.
They also make the sensor in the excellent d7000, which handles high iso really well.
This can only be good news..

[QUOTE=Sydde;12126014]Probably not, though, because then our tech-toy upgrade cycles would be much less regular, we would have to fix more stuff instead of replacing it, and there would simply not be enough margin to maintain the crucial upper class. So, yeah, practically speaking, we have to./QUOTE]
One wonders how Japan, the third largest economy in the world, does it?
They are just as tech-toy advanced as the United States... if not more.
And they manage to do it while spending only 0.9% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures) of their GDP on defense ($46 billion) while the United States spends 4.3% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures) ($663 billion).
How is China growing into the next economic superpower while only spending 2% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures) of its GDP ($99 billion) on defense?
See, I think you have it backwards. You see our massive defense spending as propping up our economy. I think a closer examination will reveal that it is instead is instead, dragging us down.

I just wonder if there is any upgrade pricing strategy. No matter what - $299 is A STEAL!
Specifically addressed after the main demo.
No upgrade pricing, versions, etc.; one price, from the app store. Period.
Considering the current FCS price...

agree - apple needs a thin and light 12" laptop or similar.
Where is my 2 lb Apple laptop? Sony has one. Panasonic has one.

Remember, if you buy Vista, it'll most likely last at least 4-5 years before the next paid upgrade, unlike with OS X where if you want the latest and greatest, you're looking at an upgrade almost every year.
Wow, not getting updates to your OS for half a decade is now an advantage is it?
And Windows users accuse Mac owners of being delusional!

300-600 mb over the air?
They'd have to change the updates to be actual updates, rather than the "install the entire OS again" approach we have now.

I am one of the folks who say that. I am not a fan of the band or group. It might mean I don't like what they might stand for, or their individual ideas so I don't buy every thing they do or did. It usually means that I don't like the sound or style of the bulk of their catalog. An example would be not liking a particular genre of music but finding one song I enjoy out of that genre. I don't like country music as a type but I have a few songs in my library that are country tunes. But I might put all that aside and enjoy one or two songs from an artist that I don't particularly like. I have had artists that I liked so much I bought everything they did only to later look back and say wha??? Why did I do that?
You don't have to love the Beatles music. I do, and billions of other people do, but you don't.
But, you do have to recognize that without them, popular music would be an entirely different game right now. People can't remember a time when rock/pop was only ONE type of popular music. The Beatles made it THE type of music, and virtually everything that has come since is a direct result of that change; both musically, and in spirit, in terms of the artistic freedom and experimentation that the Beatles encouraged.
This is not to mention the enormous influence the Beatles had on the recording process itself; the technical advances that went down at Abbey Road in the 60's were mindboggling, and many have become standard studio practice.
So no, you don't have to love the music. But you must grant that without the Beatles, most of the music you DO love would be a whole lot different.

For all those saying 'It won't be over 3G' thats an assumption based on the current system.
For any OTA solution to work even thinking of using the current system would be foolish. Therefore its safe to assume that should this go ahead they have developed a system to push out only the required changes, such as those seen on BlackBerry's and Android devices which utilise 3G and WLAN.
Also, both of these solutions use your data allowance so why would this be any different? You have to accept a warning that this may use your data allowance and then you start the process.
However, I don't see them pushing full new versions of iOS OTA. I exepect it will only be minor updates.

Yes, I know that some places (e.g. Texas), black people are provided with retarded attourneys who show up intoxicated in court - if showing up at all.
This is the first I've ever heard of this. Do you have a source? Usually the situation is that public defenders have too many cases.
You do realize there are plenty of other minorities who are not black right? They don't seem to be having the same problem. By your logic Asians, Indians, and even Jews should be having the same problems. But they're not. I have no bias in my OP, just cold hard facts. You choose to continue to sugarcoat the issue and be politically correct, but you're wrong.
The influx of Russians into parts of the U.S. is bringing more crime.

They ADDED a screw?? I mean, they drilled a new hole in the casing???
That seems like a crazy repair job if ever I've heard one.
Yeap, they drilled a hole in the center of the macbook and added a screw.

Why does it have to go inbetween the iMac and something? How about giving customers a CHOICE at the same pricepoint as the iMac. Lose the integrated LCD for those who have one, bump up the specs a bit and sell at the same price points... See my post above for what I would like to see....
Exactly why it wouldnt happen, cause Apple doesn't want to give people choice at one price point. Its either desktop or portable.... pick ur price... and low beho thats the mac for you. Period. No disputing the great Oracles at Cupertino.

Surely Hard Drive players are on the way out in general? Must be a major reason for the devices to break.
I wonder what breaks more often, the hard drives fitted in the classic or the fragile touch screens of the iPod touch?
