Anyone else call BS on that whole article?
First, off: Its poorly written. As soon as I saw the "The Apple fan-boys out there will say that..."
Really? Speculation on what Apple "fanyboys" will say? Sounds like Engadget forums.
Second: Didn't ANYONE realize this is all rumor and speculation? Not fact?
I used to come to Macrumors to read about Mac news, but now its all anit-apple crap.

I think it won't be released yet, but they've got it to a strong showable point. Underlying architecture probably relies on a few features tied to Lion (QT stuff and more?). Maybe we'd need to upgrade to Lion for it. Ready to go in June or whenever Lion actually hits.

A lot of folks are waiting for game benchmarks...bring 'em on!
Does anyone seriously believe games today will show any significant improvement on a Mac Pro?
1. The video cards are underclocked compared to their PC equivalents on the Mac.
2. Generally, you are limited to a framerate of 60Hz anyway.
3. Most games are old ports, and need to run thru Rosetta.
When playing a game on a PC, you have DirectX to take full advantage of the hardware, and your processor is usually tagged consuming any and all cycles it can for the game. On a Mac, multithreading, and sharing the processor among apps seems to be the flow of the computing experience.
I'd predict a single Core2 Duo Extreme would still outdo a dual processor 3.0 Ghz Xeon Mac Pro when memory timings are nearly half of the Xeon on the Core2.

No, this isn't true. All of them have a socket cpu that can be replaced.
Absolutely not true. The laptops are all soldered. What gave you that idea?

This won't go very far as the plaintiffs and their attorneys clearly don't understand what the this data file is used for nor is the information being transmitted to Apple.
For an excellent overview of the subject and what the data file is used for, this link provided by Steve Sande from TUAW is a great read:

Ahh, but that was a different situation. In that case, Steve said that, but was dependent on IBM to make it come true.

For the laptop segment, by the Holiday's, the MacBooks should be equal to the QUAD G5 in power, with the MBP 8 cores (2x4), and desktops in all various ranges.....especially with UB programs, all the way up to 4x4.
You mean the Holiday season of 2007? You must believe in Santa Claus. You aren't going to be seeing Macbooks equaling the speed of the G5 Quad any time soon. Quad in a Macbook by December? No way. You won't see it in a MBP either...

Here we go again. Broad generalizations. Go to the responses to blogs and articles on the internet and you'll see this isn't true.
Maybe I am mistaken. RT, would you please quote some right-wingers who did name-calling? Seems to me that many accuse others of, say, racism, mysogeny, or homophobia when the accusers want to silence the accused. I don't want to offend anyone, but I won't let anyone intimidate me. Name-calling reflects mostly on the name-callers, and in the end, what others think of me will matter very little, if at all. There's even something good about the opposition I get: It thickens my skin.

Widescreen is great for movie watching, and the spec-lover in me is all over that... but its not very flexible for portrait use. (Which is how you hold a tablet one-handed, and is how you see the most content on a web page or scrolling document.)
A 10.1 1280x800 screen is actually almost exactly the same screen area as an iPad: the iPad is 45.2 sq. in., and the 10.1 is 45.8 sq. in.
Held in portrait mode, the 10.1 is .75 taller... but .5 narrower than an iPad. I dont think Id care for that. (But with 1280x800 you do gain 32 pixels of width, and 256 pixels of height. Still not great for portrait use.)
The 8.9 display, thoughwhich seems to save a few bucksis an interesting option for dropping the price floor on real tablets. (Not that Id settle for Androids failings. As pointed out: specs alone dont make a good car, nor a good computer, nor a good tablet!)
Ha ha :D Good thinking!
Actually if you look at Xoom and Samsung 10.1 are both 16:10 ratio ... perfect for movies ... the iPAD is 4x3 old TV ratio ... creates the need for filler top/side bars... I think that is called letterboxing ... CRS?
The key advantage for iPAD is in Landscape there is more vertical space for the virtual keyboard ... duh?
Also key here is PPI and is the heart of the display issue. Apple wants the same density of PPI so software development has a common display requirement. Then all apps work across the board. That is why Apple has hundreds of thousands of apps that work.

I kind of wonder if many people replying in the first couple pages were actually reading the damn article posted on MacRumors... it read like complete, emotional, bellicose nonsense. WTF, people. I stopped reading at the end of the second. Why waste time with cluelessness?
If you're going to spew nonsense, at least make it relevant to the thread.
Agreed.

Mt. Fuji. A hat tip to Japan.
The use of the Mt. Fuji desktop picture in Lion actually pre-dates the disaster in Japan. Just a very cool coincidence.

Regardless of how acurate the info is and how far it is from any given cell tower or whatever, can someone just explain why this information is stored on the device as well as the backup in the first place?

Got a DFGT yesterday.
I totally suck right now, I'm about six seconds off my usual lap times, but it takes the game to a completely new level. I really can't believe it has taken me this long to get a good wheel.
My future father in law is a custom carpenter and he is going to build me a mounting stand for my wheel. I'll post some pics when he gets it done.
If you get the opportunity, don't miss out on snagging yourself a wheel!!!

I might have to get my hands on one of these. Hopefully the store demos will work. I love my new iPad, so it will be a hard sell for me.

Went down to Radio Shack today. They are doing a trade in but you're never gonna get the max price they offer unless it's out of the box new. My 3gs has normal wear over the year so they will only give 230 for it.
And I have a feeling trading in prices will drop when the iPhone 4 drops.

maybe if apple wasn't so dead set on making everything as tiny as possible so that nothing had any room to ventilate and in turn, baking inside, there wouldn't be all these problems. i'd be interested to see the performance results of say, a macbook pro with the casing type of a mac pro.
hrm...
then again, i'm no hardware designer so :P *thinking outloud*
