Only question. Why?
Some say Apple need to buy Netflix. Have those of you even considered what Netflix charges for monthly streaming?
$8
Apple will never let customers eat that much for so little. The day Apple buys Netflix, DVDs would stop, and streaming would go up to $30 a month.
Promised.
Agree. If Apple bought Netflix they'll have to raise prices. Netflix is inexpensive, Apple is typically premium.
Also, Netflix Inc is quite expensive ($12B) and other than a subscriber base, I'm not sure if they have technology or business model that isn't too hard to duplicate...at least nothing strategic to Apple. P.

just a quick note, if you guys have a PS3, buy that version of the game- the PS3 version has steam support and you'll get the windows and mac versions too for free.
Just got it! Well ordered it... I can't "get it" for another week... stupid slow ass shipping... anyway had 35 bucks in Rewardzone points. so my grand total is 22 bucks and I got a 10 dollar gift card coming my way! :D
Loving that I can play it on my iMac AND my PS3... can I do co-op with my PS3? I have my iMac in my kitchen and my PS3 in my living room... essentially I could have a friend on my PS3 and I can be on the Steam copy... or would we need 2 accounts to do that?

+1 Hahaha. God I Hope Im eligible for an upgrade on one of my lines (My personal line isn't because i got the 3GS on the day it came out) Might have to steal an upgrade from another family member. : P
You may be eligible for the new iPhone. My brother got the 3GS almost 2 weeks after the launch and he is eligible to upgrade. And if you got the 3GS on launch day, you should obviously be eligible as well.

Blu-ray movie playback support. Well that, or much a cheaper, much higher quality (1080p) much wider selection of iTunes movies that aren't tied to Apple's hardware playback devices, oh and a much faster internet connection with no usage caps that costs no more money.
Whichever you can add more easily Apple. ;)
Also making Quicktime X as feature rich as Quicktime 7 Pro, but ideally nicer to use.
The ability to run iOS apps would be nice too.

If this means I can finally use the same online calendar (either Google's or Windows Live, I don't care which) with Outlook 2011 and I'll be happy. Otherwise, I don't care.

Looking forward to the season picking up again! Jan 17!
And to send some good stuff back, here's the link (shame on those of you who haven't been including the link!): Chuck Desktop (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12428034/Chuck.png). I modified it from promo stuff I'd seen, so I didn't have one with annoying extra text on it.

I'm at work so this is from memory...
1) 2009 Macpro 8 core 2.66mhz
6 gigs of ram, Mac OSX 10.6.4
40-50k ppd running -bigadv
2)home built rig in server box
i7 980x at stock speed
12 gigs of ram, Ubuntu Linux
?? ppd standard a3 units
this is the one that will get windows and a gtx 480 so it can run -bigadv + gpu
3)home built rig in server box
i7 920 at stock speed
6 gigs ram, Win 7
??ppd standard wu
2x gtx 275 gpu 7k ppd each
1x gt 260 gpu 4k ppd
4)home built rig in server box
AMD cpu 6 gigs ram, win 7
??ppd standard wu
2x gtx 275 gpu 7k ppd each
1x gt 260 gpu 4k ppd
man you could be getting a lot more PPD if you overclocked the 2 home built i7 machines. of course windows is where the bigadv units are right now, so that's where the points are.
i am curious, what do you do when you get a new video card or processor, with the old one? in other words, do you use the old stuff, or just take it out and let it sit around?
that's the hardest issue i have with upgrading. i'd love to upgrade my system to a 6-core, but then i'd have my 4-core just sitting there

Update doesn't work here on my Mac Pro. I get the flashing, the beep and then the progress indicator pops up for a split second, and the machine reboots without having done the update (the update window comes up again when the Mac is up and running again). Go figure. I will try a manual download instead of using software update and see if it helps.

So you could theoretically build and conceal tracking stations all over the place and thus monitor these short-range transmissions. Wouldn't it be simpler just to hide cameras all over?
Or, I don't know, use about a hundred other methods that have been used throughout the last century to watch someone.
There are numerous, and much more useful devices and means to watch where someone goes. Getting jogging information from the Nike+ just doesn't seem like much of a threat, compared to cell phones, or the average stalker.
By the way, this isn't a vulnerability, the device is doing exactly what we want it to do.
Also, isn't it possible to make a bomb that will detonate when it detects a specific signal? If so, this could be very problematic for certain people. Just a thought.
Like a slamhound from Count Zero?

I am glad that at least in Europe this travesty daring to call itself beer will not be allowed to sully the name of Budweis. The true, real Budweiser (Budweiser Budvar Brewery) is actually a very tasty Lager unlike that deer piss Anheuser Busch sells in the US, which under the rules of the bavarian purity manifest isn't even beer at all.
Awesome.
Cheers,
Ahmed

Put me down in the, "I'll believe it when I see it" crowd. Getting decent battery life out of anything with a 0.3W radio transmitter in it is difficult -- unless you don't use it to actually talk to anyone, or put in a large battery. "Ye cannae change the laws o' physics!" :D

"Unsurprisingly, the machine was found to be significantly faster than the previous generation."
Yeah, because it's comparing the new i5 with the old i3. And even when it's compared with last years i5, that processor was 2.8ghz and the new one is 3.1ghz.

Did you get it back? He has a right to hold it but it must be returned at some point. As for people yelling it is BS, rules are rules. The OP should have asked BEFORE bringing it in, simple enough. I think it is pretty lame as they should have an IT team that is capable of detecting a system being hacked but I can also respect their stance. As for having the card off, there is nothing that would keep you from turning it on once he left.

Wait so, how are we supposed to report No Coverage in an area with, well, no coverage?
You can report it later. Give them details in the comments section.

I think that I'm also going to fall into the camp of "I'll believe it when I see it." I know that we see all of these patent filings that suggest the widescreen iPod, but I think that the iPhone and iTV are Apple's 2 biggest projects right now (new markets, more possibilities). Maybe the reason we're seeing such a long time between updates is not so much engineering trouble, but Apple designers not being sure of how to best improve the iPod experience/design.
The thing I worry about now is that the iPod may be losing some of its glamour; when it first came out, it replaced the bulky CD players, and was the coolest toy on the block. It's still pretty cool now (I want to buy my 1st nano soon), but people looking for features may jump onto other mp3 player bandwagons. The Zune reminds me of an elongated Game Boy (the classic), but the sansa player is pretty darn nice for the price. I think that unless Apple can re-redesign the music experience, or else completely solidify its hold on the entire digital entertainment market, we're going to see lots more switchers (to PC models) in the next generation to cheaper, everyday mp3 players.
