This is about as real of a concern as the people making all the noise about global warming. Sure there are issues here, but it really looks like the efforts of people associated with theses scares are more about self promotion and self enrichment than anything else.
Seriously? I think most scientists agree that global warming is a very real phenomena. Your comments sound kind of ignorant in light of that, especially since you bring up a highly politicized topic in this context. Any responses are bound to sound off topic/political/inappropriate. Perhaps you should spread your counterfactual views in the political forum where they belong.

I have to assume that since Apple just released the 5.5G iPods, that if a 'true' video iPod is released, it will be as a 'super' iPod of sorts. This will be similar to when the iPod photo came out.
This is the only thing that makes sense to me, otherwise, why would apple put so much time between the two 5g releases, only to make them obsolete a month later???
This also makes sense in light of apple bringing down the prices so much with its last update, so that they can make room at the top.

Well, no, that's not what an empire is. An empire has centralized management and absolute authority over every single jurisdiction within it's borders.
The US has dual sovereignty; there are some powers the Federal government has that the states don't, and there are some powers the states have that the Federal government doesn't. There are also many concurrent powers in both.
Then there's also the name "empire" itself. It implies a single sovereign that IS the government, not a republic that has it's political power diffused.
On point to this thread, I'm always skeptical of anyone who claims that they can so accurately tell the future, especially when their grasp of world economics is so pathetic.
Yes, we all know that China (in fact all the BRIC countries) are growing fast, but so what? All that means is that there will be more markets, more consumers, and more opportunity in the future as barriers to trade keep coming down. Eventually this will mean that wars as we know them will cease because every country will be relilant on every other country for it's economic success. You just don't blow up the guy that sells you your coffee or who buys your widgets; it would be bad for business. At that point the notion of "empire" is meaningless because trade will not be dependent on a large army to guarantee transactions.
Then of course there's population projections to take into account. China is aging, and fast. In 30 years they will have a lot more older people and much fewer younger ones not only because each couple only has 1 child, but also because there are much fewer girls than boys. If anyone thinks that China is going to get out of that problem without any bumps and bruises, then they are sorely mistaken.
In the end, what anyone should care about is quality of life. Unlike in empires of the past, not being #1 doesn't get you raped and decimated these days. A decline of America's share of the world pie will most likely lead to improved economic conditions for all of us, including the US.

I'm not sure how school networks work, they must be drastically different than a universities network. When I was in high school myself, laptops didn't have access to the wireless networks. Nor did I think we had one, on second thought.
I installed counter-strike in our computer lab one day and a buddy got caught playing it. They asked how I did it (installation was blocked) and then said I could be fined like $40k for causing a weakness in the network. They said they had been experiencing slow network speeds the last few weeks and that if they linked it to us playing counter-strike we could be fined. cough, horse shyt.
Schools suck. We had BESS protection, some stupid dog that blocked anything remotely fun to look at on the web.

In this particular case I was planning on using RAID 5, but the Mac would still need to be able to handle managing 32TB of data.
I am in the process of researching this device and several other mass-storage solutions. This very thread is actually a part of my research because crowd sourcing on a board like this is great for solving a complex IT problem.
Why exactly do you want to use the Quad Pack Rack? It features exchangeable quad drive boxes, which aren't useful unless you need to transfer them from one rack to another across different locations.
Check out the other Dulce (http://www.dulcesystems.com/html/products.html) systems instead.
If you configure a 16 drive unit as a RAID 5 (which I personally wouldn't to as you'd have only a single parity drive) the Mac would have to handle 30TB in case that you use 2TB drives.
Anyhow, practically there is no limitation to volume sizes in OS X. Well, in fact there is, about 8EB, but you most likely won't be able to go over this limit in the next 20 years. ;)

There are a number of restaurants within just a block or two...there's the Metreon's upscale food court, Thirsty Bear (tapas and good microbrews), Buca di Beppo (family-style Italian), Chevy's (Mexican, er, American chain restaurant Mexican, but I like it just fine)...I'm sure there are some other options that I'm missing off the top of my head, so feel free to suggest others. Things will obviously be busy in the area due to MW, so we may to have to plan ahead with reservations of some sort if we're going to dinner...ballpark numbers probably okay, but we'll need something.

Well Rosetta works fine, in my opinion.. but the only thing I have to compare it to is how fast the PPC apps ran on a 900MHz G4 w/ 1gb PC100 RAM.
If you really want speed, then just buy an old Mac IIci, drop a 40MHz accelerator chip in it, max out the RAM, and run Office/Photoshop/etc under Mac System 6.
That rig runs neck snapping fast.

Years ago I remember thinking how fast computers would be in the future.. I imagined that with all the speed improvements, etc that by 2000 we'd have some wicked fast computers with instant boots, and applications that launched as fast as you could click.
Well the computers sure did get fast.. but the software and OS'es just got more and more bloated. You need a faster computer to run the newest software at the same speed as the old software on the old computer.
And in some cases, as the link shows.. not nearly as fast.

A significant amount of the news on this site (arguably, the most interesting news) is a result of the leaking of trade secrets.
