I think this is a great step and hope they use this data to keep improving the network. Want to see my money at least go towards some upgrades

All I'm interested in is the hard drive. I'm fine with xbox. 1080i is going to be 1080i on component or HDMI.

I only have a limited number of HDMI ports anyway. One is for the AppleTV and the other is for my HD cable box/DVR and I've been saving the last one for the PS3.

The black case would clash with everything else I have on my entertainment center. The TV, AppleTV, Xbox360 and rotel receiver are all chrome or white.

It's a toss up between being broke for two months and going or not going and being slightly less broke......

It would cost me specifically about £200 to do which is not too bad but still a chunk of change.

Many folks on this forum seem to use and rely on iDVD. I'm in that group.

I know that the world is much larger than this forum, and therefore the percentage of iDVD users to all Mac users is in fact very small. But...

If Apple does drop iDVD it will be another example of blantant disregard for customer's requests.

This may be obvious for many, but for me, it will be the final confirmation that Apple has moved on from the "digital hub" strategy of 1998 - 2007.

Remember when they made all this cool software to help sell Macs? With iPhone and iPad success this is simply not required any more.

Not what I call an effective tracking device. If they were talking 1/2 mile than ok, but 60 feet away running, they could hear me gasping for breath better.. lol

The Zune is doomed if this is actually true. Not sure I believe it though. Mind you it might be good if it's wireless and will partner the "iTV". Could be an interesting combo. Perpendicular 1.8" drive etc etc.

Edit: "true" video as in it has a really big drive and is widescreen.

Yeah, except they forgot to include HD-DVD. :p

Microsoft is falling into Sony's little trap: they've got the advantage of making a profit because Sony's got a higher priced console, BUT Sony's also losing money for us consumers. Once everyone realizes that, and adds the prices up for the things the 360 is missing (such as wireless and HD-DVD), man does a PS3 seem like an incredible value. Not only that, the 1.6 update really kicks the PS3 up a notch in functionality. They've also got a greater variety of games coming out...We'll see how this turns out.

And really, I feel really sorry for the people that bought a 360 only a couple months ago...It's a shame that Microsoft has to be childish.

Smart ass:p Childish was probably the wrong word.

Also wouldn't Sony Computer Entertainment still be making a profit from PS2 console, software and accessory sales even though they loose money on every PS3?

Its called snap and it's the most distracting and annoying feature ever. And you cannot even disable it. I would prefer it if Apple thought up of something of their own rather than copy features off the opposition.

Personally, I and most of the people I know really like it (including a number of Mac users who have to use Windows 7 at my work). And for those that don't, you can indeed turn it off. There's an option in the "ease of use" area of control panel...If you can't find it, just google...

This is a feature I'd like to see in 10.7. Also, the Windows 7 Explorer's address bar "breadcrumbs" with the drop down subfolder list of any folder in your path is useful. I know Finder has the breadcrumb bar as an option, but the subfolder list is nice.

LOL @ Princeton - A mere 10th in world university rankings. Far from the impressive 9th of Imperial College :D

What bugs me is that I am now at Oxford, which by the way is number two or three in the world, that Macs are under represented. In fact there is no store, virtual or otherwise in the whole of Oxford!!!!! How smart is that????

How about a nice big juicy shop on High Street!!!!! Or even next to the Bodleian!!!

    Bring it on apple

Using technology available to virtually everyone, it is possible to accurately identify individuals from as far away as sixty feet! The "eyeball" (with the included "optic nerve interface") provides this capability. Forget the Nike + iPod Sport Pack with its wireless link, the "eyeball" communicates directly to your brain! Using these surveilance tools you can identify anyone using only a photograph or in some cases an artist's drawing.

This technology is currently being used by the police, FBI, CIA and agencies of foreign governments to track individuals of interest to them. No one is invisible!

Not sold in any store; your distance may vary from the report above. Coming soon: the binocular attachment. Increased surveilance distance!

It costs right around $1 per magazine to print, design and mail for very large circulations. Magazine not newspaper. Take out the printing and mailing and you're probably looking at about $.75 costs. Sell it for $.99 on the ITMS and Apple takes $.33 and they lose money. Magazines have very little wiggle room price wise.

Assuming that your numbers are correct, then why not charge $2.49/issue - 75 cents to Apple (30%) = $1.74 back to the publisher. They cover their cost and make some money. But $4.99 per issue? If magazine publishers have existed and profited all these years there is no reason why they cannot apply the same pricing ratios to a digital format at a reduced cost (to compensate for the lack of physical printing costs). Charge a higher rate for individual issues and a reduced rate for subscriptions. The key is for them to keep it simple and not try to reinvent the wheel in terms of design/delivery. A simple .pdf style without a bunch of embedded bells and whistles seems like it would make the most sense. I can't imagine it would take that much time/money to produce digital versions so long as you're not embedding interactive froo froo crapola.

I still dont get why I would want to use my iPad to read when my laptop is sitting right next to me and is a lot more comfortable to use and not much bigger (13 MBA).

On your couch at home perhaps, but how about on the train? Or on the bus? In a car? A Plane? Doctor's office? Waiting room at the mechanic? Should I keep going or

Why Apple does not post the details on its Website???

Because its a "sneak peek" "preview".

Fact is that FCPX is going to be released in June, but be incomplete. The question is how incomplete. Apple probably doesn't know the answer to that either, which is why they are only giving out details for stuff they are sure about.

Thanks for the link - I'll read it later when I have more time and time to mull things over.

I unfortunately agree. Me and all my friends lost our well paying high-tech jobs (in Science and Engineering). I know of people loosing jobs and only getting jobs at Wal-Mart and Target. They've had to foreclose on their homes (and no, not "Prime Mortgages" - regular ones that they've had for years). Really, how can a country survive?

I saw another article on how the US will loose globally to India and China and in the Western Hemisphere, Brazil will be the new superpower.

    Not surprising at all...

Of course they weren't going to release two in one year. That was all just wishful thinking. Even if they did then to me it would be unsound as a business strategy as they'd then marginalize the iPad 2 and make less profit. And I'd assume the R&D would cost a big chunk.

See you all on MR in 2007 for 'Anyone for cricket MkII' thread!

Yeah it's been fun, let's do it again then when we retain the Ashes ;-)

I just hope all this interest doesn't go the same way as after we won the 'Egg Chasing' World cup in Oz..... but then I suppose all the big players were either injuried or retired when they got back..... at least this team is young and has years ahead of them.

EDIT: Now we need to go for over taking AUS in the ICC rankings:

    AUS 127
    ENG 119
    IND 111

The share thing is quite tricky isnt it?
Last time there is a report adding the sale of ipads to the apple computers, then apple instantly overreaches at least two major pc competitors in only one quater? i believe most CS5 users run their job on non-mac platform, and adobe may have that data. Just curious whether CS5 shows the same performance on both platforms if identical computer resources are offered. I guess those editors have their preference since they usually possess several workstations for specific jobs and they can try it out.

I actually work in a place that sells and designs high end workstations for people, and there are a lot of people running CS5 on macs. Many editors work with both, and even if they prefer CS5 FCP is still used a lot, and not being able to open a FCP project could cost you a client. It is best to go with a system that can run all major NLE's (FCP, CS5, and Avid). Also the cost of a PC editing workstation is not much cheaper then a Mac workstation.

And don't forget Davinci Resolve, which only works on Macs.
