Still a few differences. Have to factor in more things.
Mac Pro two network cards.
No bluetooth on Dell Precision T3500?
You can add these and still save over 1000$ over a Mac Pro.
Seems the Dell Precision T3500 power supply is 525 watts where the Mac Pro
is 980Watts. As far as I could find.
But you can't even run two higher-end GPUs in the Mac Pro  It doesn't really matter how big the PSU is when you can't use its power. It's not like the 525W isn't capable of running the Dell T3500.
Have to factor in Heavy duty aluminum case vs thin sheet metal & plastic. Mac Pro cases are not cheap.
And the Dell would still end up being around 1000$ cheaper.

"Awesome" indeed. Incase Apple doesn't put anything up soon enough, this is what I've gleaning from Twitter. (No vouching for accuracy.)
Available June, $299 from App Store. Uncertainty as to whether other apps in suite are being sold separately or if they've gone the way of the Dodo.
Rebuilt from scratch. 64-bit, OpenCL, Grand Dispatch, Core Animation, Cocoa. Background rendering. Uses all CPUs.
Built for Snow Leopard. Scales to hardware. New, darker interface.
No transcoding.
Colour-managed. Resolution independence to 4K. Floating point linear.
Does lots of stuff on ingest. Image stabilisation, rolling shutter correction, audio NR, auto colour balance. Auto-detects people and shot type (long, med, CU). Non-destructively.
Big emphasis on metadata and keyword tagging.
Magnetic Timeline not sure exactly what this is from descriptions, but seems to be a new way to move stuff around on timeline. Compound Clips sounds like intelligent nesting. Inline Precision Editor for roll, slip, ripple, allows you to see outside of cut easily. Auditioning allows you to collect all your options for assembly and choose preferred later. Timeline Index.
Browser and viewer may have combined. Timeline tracks appear and disappear as needed. Can use keyboard for all functions.
One-click colour matching between clips. Retime by dragging. PluralEyes-like waveform-based autosync. Sample-accurate audio editing. Audio waveforms change in realtime.
Lots of questions remain...

Hmmm, I'm not seeing any improvement in ppd even though the gtx 480 is humming right along. Foldingmon indicates it is doing about 14k ppd so I should see some difference, I will have to triple check to make sure I'm listed a the donor and not anonymous, hate to be loosing that many points
yeah i would double check. you never know. are you running the console client? or the system tray one?

You are not comparing like with like. The comparable model to a Mac Pro is the Dell Precision T5500 and specced up the Dell is about $1,000 more than the Mac Pro. :p
If you actually read the earlier posts, you would know that this is false. T5500 is a dual socket machine using Xeon 5000-series CPU and that is comparable to 8-core and 12-core Mac Pro, not SP Mac Pro. T3500 is a single socket system which uses the exactly same Xeon 3000-series CPUs as the SP Mac Pro.
EDIT: Damn you guys are quick today :p

No Woodcrest arcoss the board in the Mac Pros? BOO HOO!!! I hope the new monitor rumor is true. I am eyeing up a nice 23" monitor to go along with my new (Woodcrest based?) Mac Pro.

No? Why compromise with a bunch of xenophobic racists who have an irrational fear of Muslims?
why be so angry? ... I worked for a Muslim for 3 years ... I would not call it racism because race has more to do with skin color than religious beliefs.
he was of the belief that if you did not worship the prophet Muhammed ... you were just not there. he actually felt sorry for non-Muslims for not believing.
Personally ... I wish people would keep their religious beliefs to themselves. There is no need to spread the word of God, Allah, Muhammed or any other cult of choice.
Either way ... I do not want to derail this thread too far from "the Jewish owning the White House"

You don't need a "game room" or even a "large living room". That's just the commercial. Sometimes ppl can set this up in the basement, or empty garage, or even backyard at night...not sure about overcast. Granted many ppl clutter their available spaces with "coffee tables" and such, but unless you are like really shortsighted and have an immense lack of imagination, or just live in a cramped apartment, you should be able to move things arround to make room, if even temporary. Nothing wrong with being "poor" or simply liking small residences. But as with anything, it suits certain ppl's environment, and not so much others. No need to knock a product that other's are able to get enjoyment out of it (along with the global organization that created it) just because it doesn't work for your environment.
I'm assuming you're American.
Large parts of the world don't have huge houses, simply due to the fact there is much less land available. Houses are far more expensive, and smaller, in Europe and parts of Aisa (such as Japan), and as such in these environments Kinect simply struggles. People don't live in small houses because they're poor, thank you very much.
It's not a matter of "moving a coffee table" - even when one isn't there, you probably have to move a sofa to try and get the minimum playing space. In the UK, Victorian-era terrace houses are long and narrow which simply doesn't allow for Kinect to fit, ditto for city apartments. Houses here don't have basements, and funnily enough, garages are for cars if you're lucky enough to have one.
I know six people who have bought Kinect. Five of them have had to return the units as they simply cannot find the space, no matter the tricks they try. The sixth is lucky to have a larger than normal living room, and never bought a coffee table. When a product is hitting that level of returns due to what is inherently a design flaw, it's not a good thing. Microsoft should have realised that not everybody is living in a huge house, and that outside of the US smaller houses are the norm, and that Kinect would struggle in these territories.

I wonder if it can also detect objects. Like a foam sword or perhaps if it had some tansmitters on the ends or something.
...or glowing orbs on the ends maybe - you're right, that would be pretty cool!

for the most part i think os x is an incredibly well polished os. maybe having grown up to see the evolution from os 7.x to the platinum interface to the aqua interface of the earlier os x builds makes me a bit complacent.
a couple minor things to add, maybe -
i think os x is about ready for an interface update. maybe even a major one, unless they're saving that for os 11 or (xi).
maybe an address bar in the finder. i don't think it should be a default, but at least an option
depending on where they go with touchscreens, they may want to add ts support

We all know that at WWDC there will be' no iPhone.
Why?
It's Apple said that! They say "come to see the FUTURE of the iOS".
So it's pretty obvious that they will not present iPhone at WWDC.
Do you really see Apple sell an iPhone 5 with an iOS 4.x ?
I think the only possibility is they announce iOS 5 and say it will be release "this summer" and then some weeks later hold an event specifically for thr iPhone with immediately availability.
Or: september.
One thing for sure: the release iOS 5 date they are going to announce at WWDC is the date in which we'll finally see the iPhone 5.

That is quite expensive. Doubly so if you have to buy 2 for 4 player support, eep.
That and nothing they've demonstrated so far appeals to me.

Stay thirsty, my friends.
I tried a Budweiser once. I won't be trying one again.

I think thats a bit dark for Apple. The only black Macs they've had are the black MacBook and the black powermac.
Maybe Apple is going towards the "DARK SIDE"
They recently changed their website menu bar to Liquid Metal Black:

I hope your joking... otherwise, you seriously need to get a life.
Are people as outraged by this leak as I am? I can't believe it. He just stole Steve's thunder at a later secret event. This will end up costing Apple the element of surprise and the impact of a special Steve announcement. We've got to punish Lion's Gate somehow. We need to boycott all of their films and show that they cannot mess with Apple. The mothership is under attack! Who's with me?

Yea I had the same problem as well, I really loved the 11 macbook air but than after awhile I switched back to the 13 inch macbook air b/c my neck cant handle it anymore and I feel really clastrophobic. It hurts real bad so I dont think I will be going back to the 11 inch any sooner.
