Sometimes silence speaks more than words. Your avoidance of the central issue, and irrelevant or at least less relevant focus on the size, and militarism of coalition countries indicates a lack of understanding or a willful avoidance of the issue I brought up... the 'anti-change' Obama really stands for and the hypocrisy of those on the left and the American media in general when it comes to wartime actions of Dem and Repub presidentsI could not be less interested in taking part in one your tedious party political rants. I was simply suggesting a blindingly obvious reason for the difference between the size of the bought coalition of the craven in 2003 and the present effort. You brought that up, nobody else.

    Stay classy Faux News:

Oh, it gets better. Apparently, the release of the birth certificate proving them wrong somehow demonstrates that the "birthers" were NOT kooks.

President Obama reversed course today and answered critics, led by reality show host Donald Trump, who have called for him to release his original birth certificate.

Until now, the White House has stood by the presidents certificate of live birth, a health department document that attests to the existence of an actual birth certificate. The document has less information, but is valid proof of citizenship.
    ...
The president will address the press on the issue this morning just one day after his press secretary upbraided a reporter for even asking about such a thing.
    ...
Case in point: In a snappish press conference on Tuesday, Press Secretary Jay Carney gave a belittling answer to CNNs Ed Henry for asking why the president doesnt put the doubts over his nativity to rest by releasing his long-form birth certificate.

Carney told Henry that Americans would be appalled by the question and that he should be talking about serious issues involving the economy and foreign affairs.
    ...
Carney painted Obama into a corner by suggesting that he cant deal with the distraction of answering the question about his birth certificate because he is working constantly to revive the economy and oversee three wars. How can he help Winfrey, raise money or even play golf by that standard?

Democrats long championed the idea of branding Republicans as kooks for believing that the president might not have been born in Hawaii. It explains why liberal outlets have given such lavish attention to Trump, who has embraced the issue.

But when a Gallup poll shows that only 38 percent of Americans are convinced of the presidents place of birth, the strategy of branding Republicans as birthers looks dubious. The fact that Obama has drawn a hard line against releasing his birth certificate amid such doubts was an unsustainable position amid legitimate inquiries from legitimate journalists like Henry. 5. Can Apple locate me based on my geo-tagged Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower data?

No. This data is sent to Apple in an anonymous and encrypted form. Apple cannot identify the source of this data.

So while it is true that the iPhone does note Wi-Fi locations in your general area, and thus it does "track" you in that sense, it is only on your Mac that this information can actually track you. The information sent to Apple is anonymized, and thus not trackable to you.

Apple is NOT tracking you. Your phone creates a database that could track you IF SOMEONE HAS ACCESS TO YOUR MAC. But if that happens, they already know everything there is to know about you anyway and have no need to check your Wi-Fi database. They've got your Address Book info, your bank site links and cookies, your email, your personal letters, etc.

The only reason to slam Apple is for not culling this local database. Now they will. But Apple was NEVER tracking you. Apple is not lying when they say that.

I certainly realize that the circumstances are different, but the fact remains, we launched missiles at another country.

You've been doing it since the 1940s without congressional approval. Why so concerned about it now? Why this particular president? Were you personally concerned when it was done in Bosnia or Iraq? Do you realise that missiles have been launched into Pakistan from drones for many years, yet no declaration of war on Pakistan...

Or are you just parroting the latest conservative reason to oppose Obama's actions? Obama: whatever he's for, I'm against. Is that it?

Having managed at several retail giants right out of college, I can give an answer as to why a company might withhold some stock and it's a very simple one...

What if the supplier is abnormally constraining stock of a popular item?

Do you prefer to be out of that item for a week, possibly weeks after it sells out or do you conserve some stock to have some in the store every day and tell some customers you're expecting more the next day?

From what I've read, Apple's shipments of iPads has been constrained.
Clearly, from a retail manager's perspective and even from corporate managers, I could easily see why Best Buy might conserve some stock until Apple gets ramped up and can hit demand. Otherwise your regular customers will get the impression that you're not carrying the product at all and just go buy it somewhere ELSE! At least if you tell them you'll have some more in stock tomorrow, there's a better chance they'll come back the next day.

Trust me, I'm not a big fan of Best Buy, but this appears to be Apple's doing since they forced the issue by making sure their Apple Stores were well stocked and maybe not as much as the retail giants.

Clearly not many people here have managed in sales. If you've got a product you KNOW is going to sell out in a particular time period and you've hit your sales quota and you're not going to get any back in stock for 2-3 weeks, this is not a crazy idea to do.

In my opinion, Apple needs to get its supply chain act together and stop micromanaging other vendors' sales strategies instead.

    I hate Radio Shack.

Salesman have their heads up their butts
or corporate does not know what to tell them.

The 4th store I called said if you have a PIN
    you are guaranteed a phone.
I understand your frustration, but apple kept us all in the dark until the very last minute. Before 3:30 no body knew anything. It will take it a little while to roll down hill.
I think we all know how secretive apple is don't we?

I just manage a store in the best region in the company. We have a very effective chain of command here in E. Texas.

Really? Are sales numbers what dictates one product is better than the other?

I'm not saying the Xoom is better (I haven't used one) but a reading of the posts on this thread would suggest that sales number indicate that one product is better than the other.

In that case, Windows is obviously the best OS on the planet, by a magnitude of 10.

At some point your going to have deminished returns. Sure multimedia apps can take advantage of a few more cores, but I dont see Mail running faster on 4 cores, nevermind 2! The nice thing about intel is that they seem to realise that, and have invested in improved IO as well, look at Pci express and SATA, you can have the fastest processor in the world, but if your running it with 512megs of memory your going to slow down fast!

How many times did Barack Obama attempt to draw a difference between himself and Hillary by saying "I was against the war from the beginning."? Lots.

Being against a specific military action doesn't make one a military dove.

I see you included lots of "lots" but no "links". I'm sorry, but mere rhetoric only goes so far in this forum. If there are so many instances that prove your point, why haven't you actually produced them?

I had the same problem with their battery recall site. My PB s/n was valid but it said my battery was not.

I tried calling the apple support number provided but every time I pressed '5' to talk to someone about the battery issue, I would get disconnected.

Eventually I reached tech support (after a 30 minute wait, I assume because others were having the same problem as me and also calling tech support) and the analyst said the database of valid batteries was not yet complete and they were telling everyone to check back today (I have not checked yet).

What bothered me, of course, is why couldn't they post this information on the battery support page? Or put it on the message when you call apple support? Instead the message over the phone simply pointed users back to the website, which of course wasn't working, and thus I spent almost an hour wasting my time on something that apple knew wasn't working yet.

I mean sure, this entire incident wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it certainly doesn't raise my confidence in apple support or customer satisfaction.

My 3Gs contract ends in June and Apple will be pushing it's luck for me to go half a year without me being tempted to jump platforms instead of waiting for the iPhone 5.

Can you not reduce your monthly contract cost at the end of the contract? After 18 months, you have essentially paid off the phone, at least that's how it works in the UK. Of course you have to ask for it!

Besides... with it being delayed until September, maybe we'll get more than we think with the iPhone 5 update? iOS5 should keep us busy over the summer anyway with new toys for our current iPhones. :)

How do you know iOS 5 is being released this summer? They might just show it off at WWDC and release it alongside iPhone 5 later in the year...

    iPhone 1 - 2G
    iPhone 2 - adds 3G
    iPhone 3 - adds 3GS

I don't understand - you can't "add" 3GS, because 3GS is not a data network. 2G and 3G is the S in the iPhone 3Gs simply stood for "speed", because it was faster than the iPhone 3G.

The Mac Pro isn't for most people. It's for professionals and professional applications, which are usally multithreaded, and will take advantage of the capabilities.

If you have a complaint about all these cores and not being able to take advantage of them, then this is not the computer for you. You're probably not using the software that will take advantage of them, so let it go and stop whining about it. For the those of us that do, this is great news.

It was just a general point, not a whine, so don't get your panties in a bunch. And some of the applications that don't take advantage of multiple cores currently are Adobe Photoshop and Quicktime which both rarely use more than two cores and sometimes only one. Both pretty important to professionals.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but Kentsfield will not be appearing in any of the Pro machines for some time.

Apple will be using them exclusively in the Xserves, at for the most part of 2007. This will finally give Apple another way to distinguish their server line from their pro line.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I hadn't thought of it, but with a server class processor ostensibly powering the Mac Pro, it begs the question of what the servers will get as an upgrade.

The simple answer--next generation server chips, duh!
