Really, what's pathetic is that people continue to throw fits when very basic, watered-down information is provided by people who already got scammed into shelling out hundreds of dollars just to get the "privilege" of having enough info to do development work for the new platform!

Apple has *plenty* of secrecy already, considering nobody but a select group of employees gets to see much of the code and product designs that are still "works in progress".

Yes, this is true* based on my experience at WWDC this year. I walked to the conference with a Apple employee who was staying at the same hotel as me.* As we walked, he was telling me about how secret Apple keeps the Leopard builds.* He was a tester and basically said it is on a "need to know basis". It is a very closed environment from what he was saying..* He did not have any reason to lie to me etc..

Apple would need to adopt a more open policy like Microsoft does with*
Vista and MSDN beta versions.* But there is a lot of truth about how good ideas are integrated.. Look at Widgets/Gadgets* and Spotlight/ Windows search etc..* So there are some trade secrets going on here and major competition over the same key selling points for the release.

Being at WWDC,* I never heard anybody say anything about anything while we were waiting about 3 hours for the keynote.* This was monday morning and most people were pretty chatty. **What I have noticed is some developers such as Aspyr or Blizzard know about things but cannot disclose due to their NDAs.. So, the information is "hardly secret" - so have to disagree with you there. **The hundreds of dollars for a Select membership has other privledges such as the hardware discount for development and tech support, seeding program, hardware lab testing etc... Its not really that bad of a deal as being a ADC Select member, i am downloading the newest build now to finish my development using the new XCode etc..*

If I Had Any Respect Left For Nokia....it is now gone. Why not just proudly go down and wish those who beat you...well.
I have to agree. Patent lawsuits are fine, but this ITC garbage is just petty. "But he hit me first, waahh."

Conde Nast is clueless. Trying to rip people off of course results in low sales. Apple customers are not stupid.

For companies who understand Apple customers, iPad magazines are working out great:

    http://obamapacman.com/2011/04/ipad-subscription-doomed-rupert-murdochs-publications-beat-angry-birds/

I have Zinio and subscribe to multiple magazines on it. It works fine. I don't want a separate app for every magazine that I read. I don't want different controls, different features, different layout, etc. I don't want every magazine "enhanced" with video features in some brave new experiment that I'm funding. I want a PDF of the magazine delivered to me to read. That's what Zinio does (it's an encrypted equivalent to PDF). I want to go to one "virtual" bookshelf and pick the magazine I want to read. That's it.

Conde Nast is having to "slow down" because they've created a damned expensive delivery system instead of using a preexisting thing like Zinio, iBooks, B&N Reader, Kindle, etc. Imagine if every ebook series had its own app!

Exactly. Conde Nast might want to hire some people who understand economics 101, Supply and Demand.

Wait a minute...I think I see your problem. Just click once on you document folder and it will open very quickly.
what you are doing is simulating a right click (Click and hold the button down). this will bring up a Start menu-like interface).. I think if you right click this will happen instantly, too.... (or maybe it's option-click...I'm not on my mac at the moment, unfortunately). There is SUPPOSED to be a delay when you click and hold like that.

I've never seen Finder slow... and I'm on the same machine as you are.

(of course I may have completely misread this and be totally wrong, in which case I would ask what apps you have open, how much memory is on the machine, etc.)

Nevertheless, if one user is using the dock this way (and a Mac user at that), that means there are many others out there. And that means that a lifetime windows user going to the Apple Store and using a Mac for the first time is going to try to use the dock this way. They are going to click on the leftmost icon on the Dock, the Finder icon, expecting it to work just like the Start menu.

Maybe now that Apple trackpads have 2-finger right click, this feature of the dock should just be disabled by default if OS X detects that you are using a MacBook/Pro, or have a mouse plugged in that has a right mouse button.

Showing how Android is surging ahead is meant to show which OS is winning, but often (as is the case with this report, I believe) they are only looking at phone sales. Because iOS runs on iPads and iPods, Apple's share is higher. I wish we could get more concrete evidence on this.

There's people still happy to go for a 3GS even today over the 4 so what is people's problem that some will still want to go for a 4 when the 5 is out albeit in white and 10 months late? FFS, shut up and quit your moaning.

Leopard will be awhile, likely spring 2007 as has been previously posted. Remember, we're only at 10.4.8 and there's room for one more upgrade before the new OS comes out ;)

Apple doesn't have to worry about meeting the Vista timeline. For one thing, Vista hasn't met a deadline yet on time. For another, when it does come out it's only going to be roughly equivilent of Jaguar and and what we have now is far superior.

Where in that "article" does it say 800000 people on IB can work but won't work.

The don't want to work, but can work, went a little far

I apologize, I went a little to far with that. Was just a little wound up.

Me too. Yeah that Psych Pilot was originally tranmitted in HD 16 x 9. So I was shocked to find when I opened it that it is in 4x3. An excellent looking encode. But the completely and lamely wrong aspect ratio. Really shocked me to find nobody caught that on the way in. Looks like the encoders never watch TV.

I downloaded the Pilot as well. Very impressive. I blew video up to the size of my screen (almost "full screen" mode) and it still looked great!

It's exactly what it needs to be. The market is not ready for a full on electric vehicle. Range, charge time, infrastructure, cost, etc is not where they need to be.

I agree the market isn't ready for a battery-only EV, but I disagree that the Volt is "what it needs to be". It's still a dual drivetrain vehicle, and I think that's the wrong approach.

Much better would be a small diesel engine to power a generator. Look at locomotives for the right way to do an extended range EV.

Hum... how old do you have to be to attend? From the Macworld Expo's FAQs (http://macworldexpo.com/live/20/register///CC739315):

A registered adult MUST accompany children UNDER the age of 16. Children under the age of five receive free admission.

if it was me I wouldn't have taken my laptop to school unless I knew it was ok to do so or if other people did it. The school's IT equipment should be good enough for you to do your work on so there's no need to take your own gear in, unless you want to show off to the other kids. Get a dropbox account so you can work on your files at school and at home

Not gonna happen. For starters, how do you type in names for your audio tracks when you've got your keyboard swapped for a mixer? :)

    Still, neat idea.

    External keyboard.

Not much difference then to having an external piano keyboard

So much for Apple dominating when Verizon gets the iphone. Android is the Microsoft of this decade and Apple is Apple again. Their greed and arrogance is going to bite them in the ass again . The writing is on the wall.

So I'd have to have an external CD drive to play all my games, install my software, go through my backups and import my new music into iTunes?

Personally, I seldom use my CD-DVD drive, so, a portable USB drive to keep in my backpack would be fine. What I would really like is two drive bays, one for SSD and one for a high-capacity HDD.
