I have a Rev. A and I just love it. No problems at all, no noisy fans, in fact, the machine is so quiet it's scary. Go for it!

Haha, luckily it wasn't independence day for him, since using a windows XP machine (I would presume) would cause a destruction of an alien mothership, and besides, how can you upload a virus to a ship the size of Jupiter in literally 60 seconds? You would need quantum-core infinite RAM with turbo powered processors, enough to power the sun.

    He used a Mac.

I was in a similar, ish, situation. Other half has Pokemon Black, but our DS Lites don't like our WiFi (how dare we use WPA...), so we decided to upgrade one unit to something more modern.

Initially we bought a 3DS, but sent it back within a few days. The handling of DS games on the upper screen isn't that good to be honest (scaling issues), and we felt the 3D was a waste of time and money. Instead we picked up a new DSi for 95 (love airports), and it's great - less than half the cost, far superior battery life, and also supports WPA and the DSi store.

I got a refund for Aperture when my nephew accidentally bought it whilst playing on my Mac. Strangely enough, I can still use the App, (even though I don't as I prefer iPhoto), I though Apple would have the power to remove stuff off your purchases list so you could no longer use it.

most TVs don't include an audio in port for the HDMI.

    you can use something like
this (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011405&p_id=5369&seq=1&format=2) - a dvi and digital audio combiner, that outputs HDMI.
and one of these (http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229&cs_id=1022902) toslink to mini cable to connect audio from your computer to the box.
and one of these (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10209&cs_id=1020901&p_id=2685&seq=1&format=2) dvi cables to connect your computer to the box.

you'll also need an HDMI male to male, to plug the box into your TV.

also look at your TV manual, or if you're using an external stereo that has digital inputs. the toslink to mini cable might come in handy.

I would like to see a Duel drive raid TC with user replaceable drives and a better cooling solution . So far I have had one fail between 8 and 14 months old since they launched , and it's sat on a low shelf in an open to air on all sides unit PSU failure every time, capacitors burst.

They are very very poor design from a heat dissipation standpoint . I'd prefer a next gen one to go with a MagSafe replaceable PSU

Totally depends on what software you want to run and expected number of users. Also does it have to be OSX?

Mac Pro isn't an ideal full time server since you are spending money on video card, Bluetooth, I/O ports, airport, etc.

I don't really agree with this. The costs for Bluetooth an Airport are insignificant, and if you're a small shop, you'll want a GPU in your server (just not a high end one.)

And less I/O ports for a server? Servers should have plenty of I/O ports, especially when you need to do diagnostics. Yeah, maybe the Mac Pro comes with a few too many USB ports, but that's not the worst problem to have.

No more rack mount is kind of a killjoy, but not every shop uses racks anyway.

Yes I agree. I have a thin logitech wireless backlit keyboard and its been on for 4 months and I haven't changed the battery. It is also charged via USB so it works even when it runs out of battery.

Now that would be a good suggestion for the next version of the apple wireless keyboard (I have the 3 battery version). Sure a USB "charging" port could be added to the back (now that the new version is already 2 battery / 1.5 inches space saved).

Apple is great with reducing component size (so sure such a charger would be cool).

PS is there an easy way to check the battery level within the bluetooth wireless keyboard from OS X (or is there no checking hardware within the keyboard)?

Why don't you go round all 3 apple stores in the city , then go around all the best buy stores and then some other tech stores.

Ha, one of the comments is saying it was made for the Batman TV show. Which was back in the '60s!

It's obviously someone here then. :) Do we have a rat?

This is generally called newsletter software. Id suggest looking into CampaignMonitor (http://www.campaignmonitor.com/), which will give you HTML code for a form you can embed (and customise) plus an online interface for managing your list and sending out newsletters. Another similar service is MailChimp (http://www.mailchimp.com).

Good luck to you. I had the exact same machine, down to the exact hardware specs. I had a heck of a tough time selling it. In fact I regret selling it now.

I just found a customer review from the apple store uk site:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/reviews/H3030ZM/A?mco=MjE1NDQ2ODA

yup dccorona, maybe I should avoid Dr. Dre Tour, I heard some good and bad reviews about them, it seems like they have inconsistent built quality...

Guess I should update my 1.0 version.

You should. There're only security updates and minor bug-fixes in 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, but security updates are a good thing. ;) Also, even if you have searchplugins, the upgrade is very painless. And if you don't, then it's just drag and drop! :)

Ok, so it isn't really possible to build a complete website from scratch but I do want something that would allow me to make small changes. Basically I'm looking for something that will let me FTP to my site, download a page, edit it and then upload the changed page.

Is there anything out there that people can recommend?

    Thanks

I will but if it's just replacement warranty, for the cost, I wouldn't be *too* bothered if it wasn't covered. I'll be backing everything up anyway.

    Good point though.

Thanks.Another warranty related point. Seagate offers 5 year warranties, Hitachi offers 3 years. What do the others offer for retail drives?

Some companies (or models of drives) are down to a one year warranty for the retail packaged drive. That tells me they don't expect them to last to 3 years with any decent amount of regularity.

Buy a drive that the manufacturer is willing to give the longer retail warranty. The OEM drives will be the same quality but may have shorter warranties. Also a lot of times you have to go through the correct OEM to get warranty service on an OEM drive.
