I am now pretty sure that new MacBooks are being released in the next few days.
I ordered one on the 17th of august and it was scheduled to ship on the 24th of august. Then for some reason it was bumped to a new ship date of august 31st, just enough time to drop a new merom processor in it!

Yeah it's strange. I called them back. They
don't have anything in their system one way
or another but told me to stop in tomorrow and
    they will check the system.

Store is on my way to work so I don't mind.

They don't need to amend. This is a federal pleading so the standard is whether it puts Samsung on notice. This is a different standard than state courts, where they would have to be much more specific. Eventually they will have to prove which models are accused. Looks to me like the complaint is fine.

So all that is left is to discuss the actual merit of the trade dress claim, of course, something that will in the end be up to the judge.

We can use pictures all we want, something tells me Samsung is just going to bring in devices into the courtroom. Pictures can be misleading as certain angles/shots might make ressemblances show up that aren't quite there.

Also, it remains to be seen how much the judge will accept generic things like "rounded corner", since I don't think I've ever had a phone without rounded corners and how much in the end, he decides that the devices to ressemble or not each other.

Do you know of someone that looked up the icon trademarks on the USPTO site ? Did Apple even register them (I know you don't have to, unless you want punitive damages) ?

As far as I can tell its still an open source project.
This is the first time a company has made a fully open source mobile device operating system, it's Awsome. However with google placing more control in it's hands (and the projects hands) it will motivate companys to stay current and thus level the os playing field. How many people install updates on their computer? How many on phones? The difference is 1:1000 but that's because the phone forces you too.

On a different note any complaints about button layout need not apply, it takes two seconds to learn a new layout and unless you review divides you won't have to worry about button layouts (how man of you pick up a friends android(or any os) phone WITHOUT looking at the buttons?

Dr. Josiah B. Gould, the Plato scholar who taught me Ancient Philosophy, told us that, that although homosexuality was common among Greek aristocrats in ancient Greece, to them, sodomy was repugnant.Dr Simon Hornblower, the author of several books about ancient Greece and editor of the Oxford Classical Dictionary, a friend of mine, agrees with me that there is no way your teacher could know any such thing, and that homosexuality was not common only among aristocrats. The Greeks, and Romans for that matter, made little distinction between sexes or orifices when it came to getting their rocks off.

They still can not have valid sacramental marriage

Fornication doesn't matter if the person doesn't care about the religious connotations of marriage

    Greek culture also endorsed pederasty!

You do realize that the Church did what doctors said to right? They followed the medical professional advice that after treatment they were harmless and could go back.

Now priests can't even defend themselves, now it is guilty until proven innocent, also you don't get a trial to prove the innocence!
Do you not think that the priests should be jailed for raping children?
Crimes against children are usually seen badly in the public eye. The priests should not be an exception.

Hopefully the additional wait time will result in a more revolutionary than evolutionary device.

The revolution was the iPhone. Now you should always be expecting merely evolution as that is more Apple's style.

As for the supply claims, who says they are correct. For all we know all the parts are currently being used in other devices so while a supplier might think Apple is ordering this or that for say the iPad 2, it is actually going into the iPhone 5

I think this is misdirection on Apple's part to increase iPhone 4 sales.

Unlikely. Everyone 'knows' there will be an update and they will wait for it. Even if it meand 4 more months.

The iPhone 4 has a lot of flaws that people are waiting to see improved. Look at this thread...

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1021233

the rants of the folks on this board hardly represent the feelings of the general public, who may be orgasmic with the iPhone just the way it is now.

WWDC is the biggest event and the only adequate platform
No it isn't. They should return WWDC to its focus and do a town hall or whatever for the iPhone.

Yeah.... but it sure is fun to go to the Mall and see all the stores with just a few shoppers each until you hit the Apple store which is almost always packed with people. :)

I like to see the staff in the other stores trying to look cheery when you can tell they want to cry, swear. Or set fire to Apple's holiday window display

Really? Are sales numbers what dictates one product is better than the other?

I'm not saying the Xoom is better (I haven't used one) but a reading of the posts on this thread would suggest that sales number indicate that one product is better than the other.

In that case, Windows is obviously the best OS on the planet, by a magnitude of 10.

"...Core 2 Duo chips need less electricity, drawing just 65 watts compared to the Pentium 4’s 95 watts and Pentium D’s 130 watts"

Good Lord - does anybody know what the G5 is? I'd imagine that the elaborate cooling system in the current G5 towers probably won't be needed it it's running anything like the D's...

And about the WWDC, I think it is possible for Merom laptops, Core 2 iMacs, Leopard Preview, Mac Pro's and possibly Movie service. However, I think the movie thing could be replaced by a larger capacity nano but that's about it. Only 1, at most, iTunes/iPod announcement with all the Mac stuff that should be addressed.

Labelling birthers as racist, paranoid, or nutters is just pandering to the distraction of all this. The persistence of this "issue" could be more of a logical desire to belittle or erode the political power of the current president; which is akin to schoolyard gossiping, sure, but it's still strangely effective.

Now back to the birthing show!

I'm willing to bet there will be a price drop and only available on the Mac App Store.

Didn't Aperture go from 499 to 299 to 99 now currently at 79?

I see Final Cut Studio 4 dropping to 499, hoping for 299 but that's getting my hopes up high! lol

I'm also hoping a new iMac is released next week as well, to put Final Cut Studio 4 on of course!

    Key component supplier? Who?

The A5 chip already being delivered.
    Qualcomm chips already being delivered.
Camera parts from Sony. (if true)
If they are staying with the same screen size, LG is already delivering those too.
If not, that's the only part which Apple needs more time testing? For gods sake it's only a bigger screen...

    Total BS story IMO

    I'm confused.

What point is 5P trying to make here?

Is the fact that one list contains more countries by count make it superior to the second? Is that the only way to judge a coalition, by count?

That seems a little too simplistic to me.

For instance, I added up these two lists (after removing duplicates) according to how much the countries spend on their military ...

     Coalition Countries - Iraq - 2003 ~ 152 billion

     Coalition - Libya - 2011 ~ 179 billion

I guess it's just how you want to look at it.

5p's posts rarely have anything to do with reason and everything to do with histrionic political bile.

We could also point out that the Arab League is backing the Allied actions and that Libya now is not Iraq then, but why bother, because he'll just take off on some irrelevant tangent praising Reagan and Paul et fils while denigrating Obama.

Also, think about what apple would be doing with such a machine - selling you a low cost, low margin mac that you could nonetheless upgrade with 3rd party components for years. Meaning that apple doesn't make a lot off you up front and doesn't get you coming back again for 5-ish years. Great for you, not so great for them. Whereas if they sell you a mac pro, they make a killing up front, so it's ok if you keep it for years, and if they sell you anything else you'll be back a lot sooner.

Yep - and that's the reality of it. It isn't just about the consumer, it's about profit margins, product life cycles, sales, etc. Apple wants to please their customers of course, however at the end of the day, business is business.

for being part of the GT series it's very true to GT. i didnt even know about the premium vs standard or the 'blurred' graphics until it was pointed out to me. for what it is i'm very happy still. maybe when i get bored i'll start noticing everything. maybe due to me being behind the gaming curve.

the 'fun' part of the game is running out though. it'll be hard to win races from this point on. the license thing has always been an annoyance. i haven't even done one yet, just because i feel it's there for the sake of being there. i've done them in the past so nothing to prove. i'll do them for game completion and possible cars you can win.

i have xmas break coming up, so hopefully it doesn't get too old by then. i wish they had the weigert vector w8-- that was my favorite car in GT2.

the inside car view from the cobra 427 '66 was REALLY cool. i can't wait to max that car out on the tuning :)

Well it's back to the future for all of us. Remember when the Mac was going 64-bit with the introduction of the G5 PowerMac on June 23, 2003? Only more thanthree years later and we're doing it all over again thanks to Yonah's 7 month retrograde.

Just so long as Steve doesn't say we'll be at 3 GHz in a year.

    Cheers

Well, do you think it's a copy of "Previous versions", which someone posted a link to in this thread?

It's very similar. I'm saying, who cares? It's a simple basic concept and Apple has a nice implementation going. :) And I actually believe that Apple's version will not have glaring security holes. :p Ahem...I installed Trillian on managed Win2k and XP machines as a standard user, and other users had access to my IM accounts without logging in!!!!

Anyway, though, a Wiki Server in Leopard Server...mmmm... If only we lived in an Apple world. :D

That guy who made the angry video said it best... using a Mac is not so much using a computer but participating in the Apple experience. :D

Im sorry, but when you recall 1.8million batteries, and expect them not to get over laoded with call, your crazy. Dell is making some people wait nearly 70 days to get their replacement. Its a LOT of batteries. Affecting a LOT of users. These things happen.

Because Apple customers care about Apple and they want the best and reasonable services from it. Unfortunately, this is not the current case.

I am sure most people agree that Apple's current way of handling the battery replacements leaves lots of rooms for improvements, particularly in non-US areas.

We also shouldn't feel good just because Dell also does not handle it too well. After all, Dell has more batteries to replace and has a shorter period of time for preparations. Supposingly, Dell provides bargain PCs, while Apple tends to charge a premium for their products. Can't Apple customers deserve better services? Shouldn't Apple be better? Should we all lower our expectations from Apple and ask for a cheaper price instead?

I just went through my older posts, concerning Apple's strategy and future, e.g. the role of Vista. I still think, what I said several month ago is still an issue. Having seen Leopard as it stands is not very promising for Apple's future.

Let me remember you, that some of the key people at Apple left the company! In the posts there has been "monolithic kernel" and "NEXT" bashing.

Question: Did they improve the kernel?
Question: How much will the integration / interoperability be with Unix / Linux?
Question: Is there still a future for the Open Source community, or is Leopard just making OS X more proprietary?
Question: Are they continuing to water down their PRO Apps, intermingling it with the OS and making everything more childish?
Question: Is this OS 10.5 usable for a tablet PC? How strong are features like handwriting and speech recognition? (Remember, we are approaching 2010!)
Question: Will they still continue to make the UI more heterogeneous and disorganised, this mix of unmotivated 3D, lack of resolution independence, for every single task a separate application etc.
Question: Virtualisation is a standard for many OS's in the Unix world. A company that sells servers, should be comfortable with that.
Question: How efficient will the OS be, given the arrival of multi-core processors, e.g. quad etc.?

But as it seems, OS X still lives from the legacy, from the NEXT computer that quantum leap in computer history and meanwhile MS with Vista just improved a lot the feel and look, so as others also remarked it, the need to switch to Mac is not given for an everyday user.

Apple conveys to me the image of a company working on too many things at the same time, loosing focus, innovation and good people. Further since the Intel switch even the motivation to further push the design of the hardware did not happen, and the "products we wanted to build, but could not" did not appear.

Will at least the Playstation 3 be the highlight of the year and the direction for the future?
