Having been a CIT (prior to OIT) support staffperson at Princeton, I felt that the upper administration seemed to be focused on Windows (could it have been the academic-relationship with W. Gates, by its former VP of IT) and turned a cool shoulder toward the Mac.
Even colleagues there now, in systems, have a Mac Mini to be familiar with (however, they still use Windows and Unix ... but they need to. Adding or returning to the mac makes sense for students. It's just easier to use/configure).
Just remember that this requires the need for broader support. And for this, they (university comptrollers) need to start "allocating" funds to the right places.
Afterall, what good is a campus, that is now winning back mac-using students, but lacks the financial direction toward keeping "up with other campuses" by allocating value to those departments that assist the students, staff and administrators.
I applaud this news. Go Tigers!:)

WHOA iTunes movie store Who didn't see that one coming!??!?
In the news tomorrow:
Lions Gate unexpecadly files for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Disney/Pixar decide to take the company under their wing.
"Lions Gate's entertainment has always brought smiles to consumers, and we would hate to see this trend cease to be," stated Disney Representitive.

I have one that is dropping calls 1/4 of the time. Was at Apple store. An employee there bought a bumper for his. He sounded frustrated over the dropped calls. You fanboys got to come up with something more that people are morons or whining over it. I assure you this issue is quite real.
Out of curiosity did you have a case on your iPhone 4 when you had all of these dropped calls?

This is getting exciting.
and boring. seems like we've been hearing about Apple's potential (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/18/apples-north-carolina-data-center-to-focus-on-cloud-computing/) cloud-based this-and-that for ages. Hope something actually launches before 2012 (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/20/apples-massive-north-carolina-data-center-ready-by-end-of-year/).

The price was also a concern for me since the original was similar to a mini game and basically a free thrown-in with the orange box. But they are calling it a "massive sequel" with a "larger set of devious test chambers." I ordered mine for Xbox360 just because that's what I'm use to. Also, I pre-ordered from Amazon because they gave a $5 discount and offered a $20 account credit (Xbox360 or PS3 only). The offer is actually still available today even though technically it's no longer a pre-order.

I work for UCSD's Resnet department and I have also noticed a sharp incline of mac users this year. A little under half the support calls/appointments I get now are for macs (which says something about their ability to "just work").
Personally, if I were to buy another computer atm, it would also probably be a mac. The decision is quite simple now that mac's are reasonably priced and can run windows just the same.

I believe that there is no intention on iLife or iWork be released until Leopard is available. I believe that when Leopard is introduced so will the new iLife which will take advantage of Leopard's amazing new features.

I'd add that the Desktop Celerons are junk (especially when you can get the budget-priced Pentium D for something like $130).
But the Mobile ones are actually a fairly good chip at a fairly good price. So long as the rest of the configuration is acceptable.
And when the budget priced Pentium D can be turned, with fairly little investment into an Athalon Smiting, Fire-Breathing beast. Give it a bit, if the Apple MBs have to conform to intel standards, then they're going to have standard fan mounts on them. With standard fan mounts, that means that if Apple doesn't include Phase-Change cooling systems from the factory, that aftermarket units will work. And that means, that when the MacPros come out, someone will be figuring out how to OC them to death.

I work at a small embedded software development house and I am moving my entire team to Macs (MBP). We do mostly Linux-based development and we are using Parallels on the MBPs to run Suse Linux and then using X11 on the Mac to have a single unified desktop.
I hope in a couple of years to have the whole company moved over. You should see the interest from the other teams in how we are using Macs (and if they can join my team!).
I could not have done this if it was not for Apple's Bootcamp and Parallels and the Intel switch.
The world is changing!

Definitely Will Happen:
Mail and iCal updated to resemble Mobile Me
Interface updated to resemble Mobile Me (more helvetica, less gloss)
Would Be Nice:
Major focus on graphics performance. Perhaps of a way for an 3D App (i.e a game) to monopolize the CPU and GPU, like in Windows.
Dropstack and tabs in Finder, to obviate the need for Path Finder (for me)
New File System, whatever they started to work on after the ZFS licensing fell through.
Bring back the normal audio/video controls in the Finder
 Tags
iChat removed from the OS. New Mac and Windows versions with FaceTime, available immediately.
Faster way to switch to Bootcamp in the Apple Menu (this was a feature in a beta, and they took it out.)
Better-looking folder icons with COLOR that stand out.
 Resolution independence
Quicktime X with 7's features; Quicktime 7 gone
Not Counting On It:
Editable Apple Menu, like in days of old
 Copy and Paste in Finder
A better looking, flatter bottom dock without the stupid reflections (I have mine set to the 2D version now)
 Blu-ray support
I would really like to see a iCal & Mail to resemble Mobile Me.
But that thing your not counting on, Blu ray support. Yeah your right, don't count on that.

So, are the days of "buy the full version/suit once - get a upgrade for 1/3 of the price with your license" over??
It's in the laps of the gods.

Does anyone think that Jobs will release the Generation 6 iPod around the same time the Zune is released? The press coverage of the new iPod would put the Zune release a small story in the back of the newspaper. The new iPod would get all the headlines and MS would not get that much attention with their release. If you look at it from a marketing standpoint it would make a lot of sense. All the tech stories would revolve around the release of the new iPod, PS3, and the Wii. How could the Zune compete with that when all of the coverage is going to the heavy hitters? Jobs knows how to handle to press so I think that this really makes sense. Any thoughts?

With the internet, I think magazines aren't doing that well anyway. Plus most of them are 50% ads, and the same ones in each magazine, which is quite boring.

I don't buy it. Apple creates services that help it sell more hardware. I don't see creating a Netflix competitor would help to do that.
