If you want to opt out and not provide this information, you can get the OS X version of dyndns.org to manage a domain name that handles dynamic IP address changes.
Or use no-ip.com. Their free service lets you pick a subdomain for yourself, and they have both a manual app for updating your IP, and a background process that will keep the IP updated automatically. (However, their software for Mac is fairly old--it no longer has the option to launch the process at boot. So I add their manual-update app to my login items, just as a reminder, and then I go into its prefs, where I can click to start the "daemon," and then quit the app.)
I've tested it on Leopard in the past, for hosting games. Have not tested with EyeTV and Snow Leopard.

Damn this Kinect is one greedy mofo in regards to space. I could not use it in my own room due to lack of space, the same room where Move & Wii both have no issues what so ever. This is going to be its biggest problem by far.
Were talking 10-12 feet for best results. That's quite some distance from your TV and if you have to factor in a room having sofa's & chairs - it soon is evident your going to need a bigger home. Kids can forget this in their bedrooms anyway.
Once I was able to give it the room it demands it worked great, but as I say without that room - forget it.
I thought you were just exaggerating, but after buying Kinect this weekend I found out it requires you to place the sensor:

- where the floor is visible to the sensor

i and being to use neooffice for quick viewing of files but when it comes to writing my own documents i do have to fire up the old excel and word. Which is still a pain even with 2gb of ram and a core 2 duo.

Most people who buy Macs are somewhat creative. With a Celeron processor, you can't be very creative...
I don't know why the Celeron keeps coming up. I and others think it's quite likely Apple could drop the price on the current Core Solo $599 unit to $499 based on the reduction of costs of the CPU, chipset and other components, now that they are 6 months old... In fact they might even be able to use a faster Core Solo processor at the same time. If the prices haven't dropped yet they will soon, real soon. Merom is just around the corner...

in fact, they are for the rich people who are impatient.
For example, this Kinect is for those who can afford the 42" HDTV and

As for me, I don't like M$ and their crappy products;
that's because the quality of their products is usually poor.
Just look at the ridiculously huge amount of xbox returns
(because of hardware problems)
I will wait for competitors (Sony, Nintendo) to come up with something revolutional.
And then for the second or even third gen of this "tech miracle".
I actually think the required room is a good thing. I think perhaps they "could have" made it a bit shorter, but they didn't want ppl tripping into the TV and kicking it and such. Personally, I wouldn't want kids flailing arround right next to my brand new 40+ inch LED TV and such.
You don't need a "game room" or even a "large living room". That's just the commercial. Sometimes ppl can set this up in the basement, or empty garage, or even backyard at night...not sure about overcast. Granted many ppl clutter their available spaces with "coffee tables" and such, but unless you are like really shortsighted and have an immense lack of imagination, or just live in a cramped apartment, you should be able to move things arround to make room, if even temporary. Nothing wrong with being "poor" or simply liking small residences. But as with anything, it suits certain ppl's environment, and not so much others. No need to knock a product that other's are able to get enjoyment out of it (along with the global organization that created it) just because it doesn't work for your environment.
And just an FYI, despite "returns" (which are prolly most due to blocked vents) the XBox has the highest "attach rate" (i.e. games per console sold) out of all of them. So add that to your expert knowledge about product comparisons!

Nokia again? Instead of building great phones (like they did a few years a go) they only build crap nowadays.

That said, they should be offering the magazines at a significantly lower cost to digital subscribers, not making you pay the same amount while preventing you from seeing ads. WTF would I want to get a photo magazine for and then not see the ads for cameras, lenses, and accessories?

My company has ~80% of its' workforce in the field. For the most part (~75%), they have not had direct contact with their main office. If I were to hazard a guess, 1/3 of these employees would benefit (or the company would) from being connected. One of my current projects is to automate our field operations.
Email would be the first obvious application, but near real-time data collection would be of even more benefit to the Company. So, I have scaled down some applications, which run decently in a Citrix shell, and at the current Cingular bandwidth. Recently, I have been looking at various tablet PC's and small footprint laptops. I am surprised by how few attractive products there are and/or how much they cost. The price/performance ratio is absolutely dreadful.
I have been asking myself why no one seems to be really jumping out to capture this market. Granted, there are some players out there, but nothing to really wow you. Then I started remembering some of the rumors I have read here, some of the patent applications and job descriptions for engineers specializing in the various technologies associated with this type of product.

the more the story gets out, it becomes apparent this was a theft! If you are at an Outback steakhouse and a woman at the table next to you leaves her purse, are you entitled to walk out the door with it? When people realize they lose something, they always retrace their steps and eventually return to where they left it, wouldn't it be nice if it stayed there with the restaurant/bar's lost and found. Walking out with the iphone was theft. He probably thought it looked so cool with the front camera that he couldn't help himself, but it was still theft. He didn't know the guy, and had no way to return it. He should have left it in the bar with the management. Finding it on the street is different, but an establishment..... come on. Not to mention the likely hood that he lifted it from the guys pocket, noticing him using the facebook update at the table, and seeing the front camera knowing its something prototype, finds a way to sit near him, buy him a beer, do the grab and then do a fake 'look what was found on the stool' story to try to cover his tracks.

I don't understand what all the complaining is about. The 360 Elite is not ment to be purchased by everyone. They are still offering the Core and Premium systems and they will continue to offer the 20 gig and 120 gig hard drives. If you don't want HDMI, then just get one of the other two systems. If you don't want a black 360, get one of the others. If you want wireless, buy the adapter. Its the same system just with different options. To me, its like buying a car. If you want a bigger engine, you pay a bit more. You want leather seats?? That will cost you extra. At least Microsoft is offering you a choice, unlike Sony who is forcing a $600 console down your throat.
The way I look at it, if you want to buy a 360 just to play games, you can get a Core system for $300. Heck you can even get them used for around $250 now. If you want to add media content (download movies, music, whatever), you get the Premium. And if you are a tech nut, get the Elite. Its up to the buyer to decide what they are going to use the system for and there is no sense in charging someone for something they won't use. And sure, Microsoft is making money off this model. Really, how many people that own a 360 own the HD-DVD drive, the wireless adapter, the XBox camera, etc?? Again, at least Microsoft is giving you a choice.
Almost everyone is ignoring what the 360's primary use is: TO PLAY GAMES! Sure the media content and voice/video chat is there as well but thats not its main purpose. Its like someone buying a Mac and then bitching about no games being available to play on it. You don't buy a Mac only to play games, you don't buy a 360 only to watch videos.

With all that said, I'm still going to buy the Elite version if my stolen 360 doesn't show up by April 29th. My 20 gig HD was nearly overflowing and I found myself having to delete stuff on a regular basis. It may not be everyone's opinion so stop with the "Oooo Microsoft is teh sux and only wants my $$"

The laptop would have wireless in it. Why not make simple wireless connectivity to have a constant connection with the keyboard when detached?
If you are going to use BT for the keyboard, why don't you just make all these peripherials BT? :rolleyes:

IMO Apple built this giant datacenter in order to launch its own search engine to compete with Google. Why ?
1) When Google launched Android, S. Jobbs became furious, saying that Apple respected Google and didn't try to go on the search market. He was calling for revenge. Soon after, Apple started to build this data center.
2) Google is now a strong competitor to Apple, and Apple isn't free to not use (yet) Google's services, like their search engine, Google Maps and so on. Clearly, Apple can't consider that with an happy heart.
3) This new datacenter is really much too big for just handling the few things rumors talked about : MobileME, video, etc. It's obvious they are watching bigger.

Everybody already knows Apple's product release schedule, so to attract more clicks, the bloggers/analysts start making up off-schedule releases rumors. ;) I mean saying new iPhones coming in June is not "hot news" anymore after a while.
To me, if Apple sell the iPhone 5 unlocked in the US, I'll buy. If not, no buy. I'll be looking for the LG G2x instead.
