The NVIDIA 320m isn't "6 year old tech." Nor are the Toshiba SSD, HD screen, glass trackpad, or OS X 10.6. Get past the mindset that the CPU defines the computer and you'll see that the MacBook Air is a modern device. That said, I would like to see Thunderbolt in the next revision, and undoubtedly it will get Sandy Bridge sometime this year.
Even the 'Core 2' isn't 6 year old technology, its no more '6 year old technology' than Sandy Bridge being little more than a 'extension of 6 year old technology'. The Core 2 is as valid today as it was when it was first released, fine tuned, tweaked, and perfected - to me I don't see it hanging around for 6 years as being bad, I see it as an example of good design that can stand the test of time and deliver great performance to this day. Today the Core 2 is still being sold but under new brands, new names etc. but it is still very much the same.
It will be interesting to see where Sandy Bridge fits into it - whether Apple is waiting for the Intel refresh later this year named Ivy Bridge which will hopefully bring a GPU refresh as well :)

Hello,
on an art-television-channel I saw an article about a Finnish Science Fiction movie comedy.
the plot: 1945, the nazis send a rocket to the moon. On the dark side of the moon they built a colony and come back 2018 to capture the world.
Sounds like a b-movie/trash-movie, but I think it could be fun (and I like hilarious trash movies some time).
unfortunately the teaser does not rise a lot interest (my opinion), but there is a good critique article, unfortunately it is in german. Maybe you can find an article in finnish or english via google somewhere.

It has an interesting financial aspect. One can lend his/her money and if the movie makes profit, you get your money back with a plus. (Very unsecure, but one fan said, he had a better feeling losing all his money on a film, instead of investing in a firm, that will close in the cause of the financial crisis. An idealistic approach for people loving strange things of movie art ;)

New here, and planning to purchase a new mac mini for next school year. Here are some question, hope someone can help me out. I had already read some of this, but still want to make sure.
I would use for school work, some graphic designing, music composing, and of course a bit gaming.
2.4GHz or 2.66GHz ? Would it be different of the performance?

Ultimately, you can only have it one way or the other if you want to get a subsidised iPhone.
In the UK, you can get your iPhone unlocked because you're still bound to the contract, even after your carrier has unlocked your phone. So if you want to unlock and go for another carrier, you either cancel your contract and pay it out till the end, or you pay for your iPhone contract AND whichever other carrier you choose to go for. i.e. carrier doesn't lose out if your phone gets unlocked.
In the US, you get a subsidised iPhone with an expensive contract, decide you don't want to be bound to the contract, pay an early termination fee and you're free to go. i.e. carrier loses out if your phone were to be unlocked.
As you can see, there are positive and negative sides to both cases.
Of course none of this applies if you decide to go "all in" and buy an unlocked iPhone, from a different country if need be.

I never thought I'd ever hear this many people justifying a premium on a product. Apple has so much money right now they can pretty much do anything. If you think this is such a noble goal then when you buy your next apple product pay another hundred dollars to help their profit margins. Or so they can build better products.
And don't go looking for discounts or coupons, those hurt profit margins. Lets just raise prices.

If I were getting an ultraportable I'd get the 11.6" MBA without a doubt :D But a 13" MBP is better for me since I don't need ultra-portability, but like a light, reasonably compact laptop.

Nope it did. I have a copy of it in my hands right now. Panther I believe was when they began shipping on DVD's mainly (and of course on to Tiger...).

I was out getting drunk after work- we're 13 hours ahead over here. One of my friends emailed me that an airplane had hit the World Trade Center. My wife also emailed me saying the same thing. I thought it was just a strange accident until I heard the second tower was hit soon afterwards and guessing something was wrong.
It was difficult to turn off the TV and sleep that night as all the Japanese networks were showing the same footage over and over again...

Bravo guys. Capitalism can be energizing but it only works if the majority of citizens bother to vote in leadership that looks out for all citizens, not favor a handful of the most well off citizens. It's our fault we keep electing bozos to Washington.
The massive PR campaigns and spin carried out by all levels of government have nothing at all to do with it though right? :p
Seriously its a mix of an apathetic public when it comes to politics (how often do you hear "politics are so boring!"), and those in power abusing the public trust, whom don't get to see the inner workings of institutions.
At this point its really meaningless to participate in elections on the state and country levels if you are going to vote for the Republican or Democratic parties. They've been in power long enough to tweak the system to insure they stay in power, in tick-tock rotation.

T-Mobile doesn't even have OS X in-house, let alone have the personnel to manage it.
Their servers are a mix of Red Hat and Solaris.
Their clients are Windows only.
They run Peoplesoft and vendor shrinkwrap for all business processes.
They've never built an enterprise team to develop solutions.
They don't know a damn thing about Cocoa Programming.
I'll stop here.
Either they plan to pay Apple to build their call center suite like McCaw Systems--later ATT Wireless asked NeXT, Omnigroup and various other consulting teams to write it or they are blowing smoke about OS X Leopard.
The talented system engineers who know Linux have all but moved on from T-Mobile to greener pastures like Intel.
Perhaps if T-Mobile knew a damn thing about the Enterprise I'd take some of this serious.

The Federally Mandated Requirement is that the mobile operator is able to locate your position. The technology they use is up to them. GSM operators do it via triangulation. E911 is supposed to work regardless of how old the phone is that you're using. Do you think your 1980s Motorola brick AMPS phone has a GPS receiver in it?

I turned on the TV just about five minutes before the second plane hit the WTC... before that, they were talking about a fire in one tower of the WTC, which would have been bad enough but could have just happened by accident. As soon as the second plane hit, I (and everyone else, I guess) knew that bad things were happening. Spent the rest of the day watching TV, surfing the web, and calling family. I have a couple of step-cousins who worked in the WTC complex and lived a few blocks away... one of them had the day off, the other was thankfully late for work.
